Since we've been in league one we have lost on average about 9 games per season.

SeasonGames Lost
18/195
19/209
20/219
21/2210

In that time we've played 174 league games, which means we've lost 35 times or 20% of all of our games over 4 seasons. To put it another way, we've gained points in 80% of our games.

To put this into perspecitive, the team that finished 10th in the Championship this season lost 15 times, once you get down to 17th in the Championship you start to hit around 20+ loses

In theory, we'll be losing in matches where it could be much more even between the two sides and could actually be 'good quality' games of football, but I do wonder if this place will cope in going from hearing the whistle at the end of the game and having an 80% chance of getting at least a point, compared to around maybe 20-30%.

Yeah you’re right mate, Sunderland fans Have no experience of losing matches and will probably crumble under pressure.

Let hope Samaritans are our sponsors next year, and let’s hope the local police guard Monkwearmouth bridge otherwise people will be throwing themselves off it like lemmings every week 🙄

You seem to be mistaking the SMB being your average Sunderland fan. I didn't ask can Sunderland fans cope, I said can the SMB cope.

You know, the message board that has people asking for the manager to be sacked because we're drawing 30 minutes into games. I take it you've followed a match thread on here before?

Your numbers are all wrong for a start

5 + 9 + 9 + 10 is less than the 35 you claimed, and it’s an average of 8 rather than 9

So I’m pretty things won’t be bad - they’ve just gotten measurably better for you in just over a minute
Yep, sorry 33 not 35. Roughly 20% and "average about 9" where 8 is the number next to 9. You having an okay morning?

Depends which Average you use - the Mode and the Median are both 9 games per season for L1

It’s all about expectations imo. The squad needs investment + contracts sorting.
I’ll be happy to stay up next season and gradually progress. With this in mind, I’m fully expecting to lose our fair share of games next season, but put up a good fight, as I have massive faith in Alex Neil to guide us.

Either way, I cannot wait.

Good point, partners need to start getting rid of sharp objects and buying extra underwear for all the pant pissing that comes with a more competitive league.

also wonder how long in new season before all the players, manager and owner are shite?

I'm not sure why people seem to be looking towards next season as a relegation battle. We have an opportunity to recruit for so much more than that.
You'd definitely hope so. A lot of the teams in the Championship are pretty evenly matched, so recruiting even moderately well can put you just that little edge above everyone else.

Whether we have the money to do that at a Championship level though will be the big question, as even mediocre players go for fairly big amounts now. It's a world away from the signings we've made in League 1. I wonder how many will be happy to just survive compared to thinking we should immediately start being fairly safely mid table as we will still be one of the largest clubs in the Championship (on many random quantifiers).
