Getting someone else’s job

I’m in a dilemma.

I have been offered a promotion in my company but it’s to replace someone and they will be offered my job (demotion). It’s not secret he is struggling in the role, but I don’t think they’ve spoken to him about wanting to demote him.

He’s not in my team but we work along side each other, so he won’t be reporting to me but we have direct links daily. The offer come out of the blue as I was happy doing what I’m doing. However since they put the idea in my head I’m very interested.

I feel like a piece of shit because it feels slimy but on the other hand he’s not performing and if not me it’ll be someone else.

What would you do?

He’ll definitely remove the mouse ball from your mouse & empty your stapler while your not looking if you take his job. Might offer blow jobs on the bog wall & put your mobile number under as well.

If he's struggling it might be a relief for him.
It's a tricky one and in an ideal world you should speak to him first but I think you just have to take it then speak to him once it's sorted so there's no hard feelings.

I'm pretty bad at interviews. Easily flustered. That's if I even get an interview as I'm too damn honest when applying. I hadn't come across one thing and I was knocked back loads of times because I didn't answer yes to it. Turned out when I had to use it in a job it took a couple of hours to sort out.

I've just completed 10 years at my place and now have to work with two feckless and lazy idiots. The feckless I could probably put up with. It annoys me intensely that these two managed to con their way into the role. I can't help but think there's people out there like me who don't interview well who would be far better at getting on with the job.

My advice would be to take the opportunity. If you don't there's a chance it will end up with a complete gobshite who has bull shitted his way in life and you and your colleagues will end up having to carry them for years.

You've not been sly about it and you have to put yourself and your family first. Couldn't imagine turning down a decent rise to protect the feelings of a stranger.

Not as good as your usual stories tbh

They’re not allowed to decrease his wages I don’t think so he’ll be getting the same money for less responsibility in theory.
That’s what I think too. So it might be a blessing for him.

He’s the big red faced angry type though so I’m a little concerned he might take it personal

I don’t make a good first impression. It’s because of my accent and people struggle to understand me well. I also have a habit of trying to dominate conversations (I’m working on it) and this comes across rude.

But every job I’ve ever had (since leaving the military) I’ve been promoted within my first 8 months. Once they know that’s just how I am

It’s a lot harder to make them interesting when it true.
Sadly my life isn’t as much fun as my winding up posts make out
Does he post on here?
I wouldn’t have thought so. But that won’t stop someone making a counter post claiming some wanker is trying to weasel them out of a job

They definitely will. If they do it might be from outside the company and then he might not have a gap to move into

If it's a case of him being demoted because of his own performance and nothing else, take the job. It's not your fault

He's an emoji??!!!🤬🤬🤬
It looks like you’ve took a selfie of him. It takes nothing to get him fired up and that’s one of the reasons he’s been accused of struggling. He makes rash decisions because he’s angry or has an agenda against someone.
He’s actually a good bloke to talk to when you don’t talk about work, but as soon as the subject gets work related it’s like a switch goes

Sounds like it's only a matter of time before they get an excuse to fire him anyway mate.
He'll probably smack one of them when they tell him anyway marra.
Just take a gumshield in for a couple of days, or give him a good f***ing hiding if he starts mate.

Had a similar situation - got my current job when I was told my boss was going to be fired. It was weird having to keep quiet about it for a week or two until they pulled the trigger, but my view on it was that if I didn’t take it they were still going to give her the sack and would then bring someone else in above me. Helped in my decision that she was rubbish at the skills and also a bit of a skiver, so I did all the work. But, yes, as above, if you don’t take it someone else will, and it sounds justified
