Geordies v mags

I go off the old Scott Dobson definition. A Geordie is someone born within a mile of either bank of the Tyne, from the mouth as far west as Wylam.

Aye have to agree with that to be honest. I know South Shields is a bit blurred with the sand dancer but yeah probably right tbh.

Nothing worse than a Consett or a Washington 'Geordie' to flip this the other way.

All dual nationals from Shields. Never been sure where sand dancer came from. Possibly due to the numbers of Yemeni seamen who came during the 19th century.
I think the same dancer had something to do with sand in the process of the production of salt, which Shields was one of the biggest producers of.

I know of a mag from Spennymoor that refers to himself as a "Southern Geordie" 😂

Also that lass from Bishop Auckland off gogglebox, who probably sounds more Makem than an actual Makem, taking the piss out of Makems 🤦‍♂️

Piss off they have just as many from the wear supporting them n they don’t cry when mags shout anti mackem stuff. Sensitive things you Geordies mind nee wonder they get shite. Why would a sunderland person stop being anti Geordie
Because an awful lot, thousands of Geordies support Sunderland and are probably more hardcore than most.
Where you from then? Says King's Lynn and your profile name suggests Washington.
Originally Boldon moved to Jarra then down south

You aren’t a geordie Boldon isn’t Geordies
Mackem, didn't exist 40-50 years ago. You have fallen into the John Hall trap of assuming every Geordie supports Newcastle, when a vast amount of our support are Geordies and always have been, long before the "Mackem" term was used in the yards as a derogatory term.
Not forgetting the none "Mackems" from the Durham villages.
It does now n we embrace it don’t like it support the Geordies cos Sunderland have and never will be Geordies. We hate Newcastle and if you wanna be like them crack on you won’t be missed

I would never call somebody from the north east scum unless they killed somebody or something
I would, and still do.Scummy twats jumped me and me Dad and tried to nick our tickets. They were neatly layed out. 6 in a row.50 years ago. They have not evolved into humans yet.

It did. I am from Monkwesrmouth, my Dad used that term, he was a shipyard caulker and burner.

That's because all mag fans, including those with Wearside accents, want to be geordies.
It doesn't happen the other way round though.

It’s all John Hall’s fault.

Tyneside based SAFC fans had no problem being called Geordies until he came up with all the ‘Geordie Nation’ shite.

Now I’d never claim to be a Geordie I’m a sandie.

Don’t get what the problem is nee one actually cares if you’re a geordie sands dancer whatever the fact that every so often people come on here n have a go at mackems cos let’s face it that’s what it is a dig at mackems cos they don’t like Geordies being called when it’s out city our club does my head in. If people wanna support us fine but don’t tell us how to react to Geordies cos you might have a pal or family member as one.

They're much worse for this than us - all their patter is around 'mackems', because a section of their support have some kind of personal vendetta against Sunderland that goes beyond football for no apparent reason.

There's some exceptions for songs, but I think most Sunderland fans would call them mags or something related to the team, as opposed to Geordies.

Agreed, I'm a Geordie SAFC fan. Dickheads in the SWC behind me singing "Die die Geordies f**king die, singing die, die geordies f**king die" every game is just brainless really.
Aye it’s utterly embarrassing like, last time we played against Tim Krul some old divvy in front of me was screaming at him calling him a Geordie kernt, Geordies aren’t welcome etc etc he’s Dutch ffs

Someone across from him pointed out not everyone in the stadium is from Sunderland and there’s plenty of support from Tyneside. Bloke who was shouting went absolutely ballistic thought he was going to bust a blood vessel.

Maybe some of us live North of the Tyne...? Also people from South Shields regard thereselves as sand dancers rather than Geordies anyway.

Also who is 'us'? Do all the pit yackers, never mind Geordies and elsewhere have to get 'your' permission to support the club now.
Nope, I'm a Geordie firstly, a Sand-Dancer latterly, (like Mackem, it was a derogatory term, when I was young) and I'm Sunderland til I die.

We're black cats, collectively because we're certainly not all Mackems.
