Anyway I'm done here pointless as you come across as the type of person who would argue till the cows come home that the sky is green.

No I'm not I'm stating certain facts that if you imagine that it was you in his shoes it would tear you up.

If it wouldn't then I feel sorry for you.

"He had it all thrusted on him when he was mentally ill to start with which is like hoying petrol on a fire."

You're just guessing mate ..... you've no idea what his illness might be or when it started.

Do you now admit he may have an illness? Not that I can be bothered with this ridiculous thread anymore...good day

I've discerned it from the quality of your remark.

I think you're very uncomfortable with men expressing their feelings and vulnerabilities, especially in public(not uncommon even in these enlightened times), and therefore judge them as weak and "letting down the side", rather like the member who regards it as behaving like a girl.

Then you've 'discerned it' wrong, in fact you couldn't be more wrong ..... tbf you're basing it on a few quick comments on a chat forum.

I'm very comfortable with men expressing their feelings and regularly tell my grown up sons how much I love them, hug my mates and let them know how I feel about them.

I've just posted a happy birthday comment on Facebook, to a fellow Sunderland supporter in Nottingham, that would probably shock you based on what you've just said.

Just repeating what you said ........ "you've no idea what his illness might be."

I have first hand experience of alcohol addiction. Gascoigne is an arsehole, end of.
Through your alcoholism did you do ridiculous amounts of charity? Help people any people when you are in rehab? Even in rehab gazza became a mentor to many people, but like you say botchie you have first hand experience of the disease so he must be an arsehole, a bigger one than you?

What was that?

Was that the one where he kept sticking his tongue out? Apparently when he scored the free kick he ran to the Spurs bench shouting 'he only tried to fuckin save it'

He was wound off the clock for the final, iirc the Spurs medical staff had to give him a sedative to help him sleep but it clearly didn't work as he should have been sent off for nearly killing Gary Parker before he crippled himself trying to break Gary Charles (??) leg.
When he made a funny noise and said ' I'm away to get me suit measured '!

He doesn't care about anyone enough to stop drinking imho . It's like he has no reason to stop , he only cares about himself .
He can't see a reason to stop whilst he's drinking. He couldn't if it slapped him in the face, the only thing that means anything to him is his next drink. He'll be waking up every morning scared to death of something he can't name, he'll have to have a drink just to be able to get himself down the shop, to get more drink. He'll feel ok for a while, then he'll get anxious and scared again so he'll drink more, you seeing a vicious circle here ? While he's drinking he can't stop himself. It's insidious, it's evil and it's one of the most difficult addictions to break. Some of us are fortunate enough to go on the occasional two day session, stop, and feel a bit rough for a while. Some of us are plunged into a black hole that we can't see a way out of, even those without underlying mental health issues. It's not as cut and dried as you think my friend.

I've had my own problems with stuff like that. I stopped what I was doing because I knew it was effecting others , I don't feel he cares enough about anyone to stop . Get what you're saying though and completely respect it .

So while accusing me of being judgemental, you have managed to judge me. I don't have a problem with alcohol and never have had one. Well done for being brave enough to post that from the comfort of your own home. No doubt somebody such as yourself who has all of these outstanding qualities, is able to hold their head high.

All I'm doing is responding to people's questions and putting forward my views as I did in the first place.

What do you expect, me to suddenly change my opinion because a few people keep coming on deciding he's a poor little victim and apologising for everything he's ever done? It's those people who have helped to create the 'Gazza' you can see now, always being handed a convenient excuse. Wife battering, being a rotten role model to his kids, cocaine abuse, drink driving, etc etc etc .... if a lad in your local behaved like that they'd be rightly condemned but there's always someone around to claim it's anyone's fault but his .... dad, family, mates, wife, Spurs, Ferguson, anyone but Gazza.

Sorry but we're all responsible, to one degree or another for how we behave.

If he was truly out of control and a danger to himself and others then the doctors, who sectioned him, would've confined him imo.

I played football alongside him a number of times, great lad, always a knacker but a good laugh. Very sad what happened to him, but it was fairly obvious from a young age that there were some things that were going on with him that differed from the rest of us. He used to stammer, have nervous ticks and he appeared to have real insecurity issues but this was all covered up by his absolutely barmpot mental attitude and sublime confidence at football.

I had the pleasure of playing against him more often than playing in the same team and I can confirm that he was a defenders nightmare. Nine times out of ten he brushed off the midfield players attempting to mark him and would basically run straight at you, you had no idea which way he was going to go or what he was going to do with the ball. He had the balance and running ability of Maradona, combined with the outrageous and unpredictable skills of George Best. He was barrel chested that gave him great upper body strength. A pleasure to play with and against, sometimes you just had to admire him as it was all natural, no coach taught his skill level.
