Mother in law rents a house out and the yearly gas check has condemned the gas fire due to co risk flame is yellow and excessive sooting
It's about 14 year old
Question does it just need a service and retesting or does it need some sort of repair
Do the burners just need cleaning out
 


Most things are repairable, the question is whether it’s worth it. For the likely cost of having it stripped, repaired and certificated it’s probably not worth it. Add in the fact it’s potentially lethal and it’s definitely not worth it in my view.

That's your answer. Condemned means do not use it. The only solution is a replacement
 
"Rents" is your answer
I'm guessing it was the yearly CP12 gas check.
The landlord should replace the fire .
It's his property so he has to maintain it to a safe standard, if the fire is condemmed he needs to replace it or get it fixed.
