Yes it's worth it. Slow to get going and there's a lot to take in the first few episodes but stick with it.

I watched most of the first series and its crap, I wish I never bothered. The acting is terrible they are all talking with a stupid accent, I would say its more like 'pretending' than 'acting'. The sets did seem canny though iirc and I did enjoy the opening scene but that was it. I could see why some people would enjoy it but I can see straight through it all.

One of the best series ever made , there are 5 or6 subplots so you need to concentrate during the first few episodes , but well worth it

One of the reasons it has won so many awards and made stars of so many of the cast ( loads of them have parts in newer seriies ) is the quailty of the acting.
You do realise they talking in a dialect that the writers can iny guess at given the medievil setting ?
