Gambling in children

The figures are nonsense - worthless

Look at the sample

The report was based on an Ipsos Mori study of 2,865 11 to 16-year-olds carried out between February and July.

I'll be honest I didn't look into the figures at all. You are probably right. However there is definitely an issue with the in game/app micro transactions culture.

Fifa ultimate team needs banning like
Starts even earlier than that. Every toy my little one likes are these egg type things that you don’t know what you’re getting. (Used to just be kinder surprise) now it’s £40 dolls and all sorts. The whole thing is a con. Plus every year football stickers have less in a pack.

Not sure if you say this in jest but loot boxes are a real problem in the video game industry Activision makes more from loot boxes than they do from retail sales.
Personally I'd ban all theses micro transactions and loot boxes.
No I’m serious. It’s just fleecing people. At least with kinder eggs you relied on your mam and dad to agree buying them. With micro transactions the kids can buy with a click.

I don't mind micro transactions where you know what you're getting. Loot boxes can get to fuck though.

Buying specific items in a game is fine IMO, a bit of a shit thing for the developers to do when you've already forked out the best part of £50 for the game but that's how it is now.

Paying money for "packs" where you don't know what's in it is surely a game of chance? The only bit where it seems to fall down is you're not winning actual money or "money's worth".

This isn't just about video games though it's gambling in general. The boss of bet 365 just paid herself 250m last year. Fixed odds betting terminals. Normalisation of gambling among the young will come back and bite society on the arse.

It sure will. You can easily spunk everything you have in your bank account in seconds on an online casino and all you have to do is put in a false date of birth if under 18.

They will and have argued that you are getting something regardless of what it is. What value you put on that is upto you. I think that's how they get around the gambling laws. I am all for banning microtransactions. You should buy a game and that be that. Bug fixes should be free.

I was going to say you should be able to buy feature packs with new functionality, levels, cars ect ect. But the line between one of those and a microtransaction is a bit vague when both can be bought online via the game and it is just the size of them that is different

They had a sweep in the primary school during the world cup. No money was involved but the bairns all drew teams from the hat. I didn't think that was setting a good example.

Every PL match advert break is wick with the likes of BET 365, PaddyPower, Willy Hills and Ladbroke ads.

Unfortunately this falls into the same category as drink. It’s legal and lots of people like a drink without having any serious problems and by the same token a lot of people get pleasure from having a punt without losing their wages.

Not sure how you can legislate for addiction.

The kids aren’t betting online though (in the main) sky are only going to allow one betting / gaming ad per ad break next year too
