Once again people are making a religious and racial issue where there isn't one.
France have banned the covering of your face except on Health and Safety grounds, i.e. Gas Masks etc.
That includes the Bhurka. They don't like it? Tough shit. One law for all. There is absolutely no need for it in Western Society. A Muslim woman can wear a full body garment and head scarf to stop her being "objectified", no need to cover her face. Talking to someone who you cannot see your face is just sheer bad manners.
Since when have the French being bothered about bad manners?
Fair point. I suppose I was talking in context of Britain.
It's not the government's job to enforce good manners. It'd be very PC of them to try and do that. I understand that many people don't like the burqa, but then many other people don't like football supporters or people drinking alcohol. Banning things just cos people don't like them seems wrong to me. It's very nanny state, so I'm surprised that so many people on here are in support of it. I just can't understand why. It's a mystery. What could it all mean?

So if you don't like one thing you cannot support another? Interesting tolerance there like...
Hes a cock of the highest order man. I hate Ned Flanders cos of the cunt
I think it's the fact that a lot of people think it is bad manners, a lot has been done for women's liberation in this country and whilst I understand many of them have the choice to wear it, a lot of them sadly don't have that choice. It is a significant security risk given the times we live in.
A lot of people just seem to think it doesn't have a place in Western culture. I tend to agree to be honest. I see no reason for someone to hide their face.

I don't see the need to cut a baby's foreskin off, but respect that other people have customs that are different to my own.
If it's about it being a security risk, then we need to think about banning rucksacks and vans too. But it's not about that. It's about Sarkosy trying to please France's burgeoning right.
I just think it's a really daft law at best, and something that's going to further marginalise a bunch of people at worst. It's almost a reward for intolerance.

Nor does the people who usually rail against the PC Brigade and Nanny State supporting a very PC and Nanny State measure.
"Oooh, you can't wear that in case it offends the white people! Best ban it!"
It's got sod all to do with political correctness really.
It's about banning wearing things that completely cover your face in public.![]()
