Forthcoming gigs.

Mogwai on Sunday, first time seeing them. Does anyone have any decent ear plugs recommendations? I never wear them and probably should, especially since it’s Mogwai.

I use these. Nice seal created when you push them in. It tends to reduce the bass frequencies but you still get a nice clear sound.

I get mine in bulk from aliexpress but they wouldn't reach you in time for Sunday

I noticed bands aren't anywhere as loud as they used to be and I mentioned it to my mate who works in environmental health etc. Apparently its to do with something like the 'noise at work' act (I cant remember its proper name!)
Essentially people who work at gigs, roadies, bar staff etc have a right to be protected.
I personally think its much better, seen too many bands loud for loud sake.

Can’t say I’ve noticed, which is a plus point if they have turned it down. However, always remembers years ago, both at the old Academy in Newcastle, the bass coming up through the floor for Kasabian & Primal Scream. Felt class.

Sorry if already posted but anyone off to see Chris Helme on Friday night? Can’t wait! Do it yourself is one of my favourite albums and he’s performing it all the way through (acoustic)

Taking me back to 1997 😎

I'm really looking forward to the gig - last time I saw them my ears were ringing for a few days after seeing Jesus and Mary Chain play Never Understand, and then Mogwai in the same week.

Same mate, glad I’m getting the chance as I saw Stuart tweeting saying after these lot of gigs they won’t be playing live for a while

Looking forward to Mogwai like, first time in about six or seven year seeing them for me. Get to see two of my favourite ever live acts in the next few weeks with these on Sunday and Young Fathers start of March.

Get yoursel down the Sage this weekend and see if you're saying that after watching Mogwai. Rano Pano or Batcat will have you deaf for a week after.

Pretenders at Lafayette near King's Cross tomorrow. Mate got let down by someone else today so my luck is in. Small venue apparently. Last time I saw them was Newcastle City Hall in January 1984, 39 years ago...

Your mate needs to go back to school. There's a whole set of guidance called that applies the principles of the noise at work act to the entertainment industry, but it doesn't recommend just turning it down

Sold out by the time I saw it. Great venue, the laundrette in Gilesgate. Saw Mark Morriss from the Bluetones there last weekend.

Is it only a small place mate? Never been before
It's actually a laundrette and it's a small venue. The acts set up in front of massive washing machines. Got a little bar with bottles, wine, spirits; no draught. Some fold down seats and a bit of standing. Good views from everywhere. Holds about fifty people.

What I would say is pay attention to the start time on your e-ticket. Both gigs I've been to there started at 19:50 and they really did (I rocked up late to the first one).

Magic, thanks mate 👍
