Forthcoming gigs.

Liverpudlian Edgar 'Summertyme' Jones plays Cluny 2 on 28th April. Hoping to make it there. The Stairs made one of my favourite ever albums (Mexican R 'n' B) and I've been catching up on his solo career courtesy of a 3CD set that came out couple of years back. Apparently he fell on hard times a few years back but he's got many great songs so I would like to see him get more success.

Me and my mates were going down to Liverpool to see the stairs play a one off gig there just before Christmas, but they cancelled. I was absolutely gutted as I love them. Seen Edgar many a time, and he is a great turn. Will definitely go to this

Cheers. I enjoyed it but didn't think it was great. My main disappointment was they didn't come out with the eyeball masks.
What did you think?
I thought it was tremendous, I mean yes it was probably a more straightforward gig than you might expect, less theatre. Not fussed about eyeballs. Also - as a lifelong Beefheart fan - I'd like to convince myself I just watched Eric Drew Feldman on keyboards.

I like the mystique of not knowing who the flip they are. I quite fancy an eyeball mask, but 200 dollars?
Glad I saw them tonight as i think that'll be my last chance.

I’ve been a regular gig goer for 20 years now & Sunderland has never had such a good scene. Pop Recs seem to be passionate about getting a certain type of band, same as the Peacock too. It helps its people who were/are in bands are running it. Then the Fire Station is getting a mix of the lot. The Damned, John Cooper Clark, to Comedians, tributes to Blondie & Bob Marley to other types of shows I’ve got no interest in.

Independent chips in, but to think 3/4 years ago they were the only one & they’re way behind the other 3 for consistency now

Quite liked this piece about small independent venues and their role. Couldn't agree more and Mez from LIFE was obviously referring to this too with his comment the other night at PopRecs:

Just been offered a Brian Jonestown Massacre ticket for tomorrow, but I’m a bit poorly ill so have turned it down. I’ll see them eventually.

Next one is Saturday at the Peacock, Ferocious Dog acoustic
He had a gig scheduled there last April but his mam died.
Looks like our squad is up for it. Cheers for the heads up.
