Form, Confidence, The Pitch, The Crowd

The pitch, particularly the flank opposite from the main stand is shocking. Evans tried to drill a ball into feet late on & it became an air shot. Really poor considering RP and in general pitches on the east coast have been renowned for quality… the climate lends itself to it… stadium design a factor bit was ok for first 20 years… under investment evident.

Name games we get on players back??? U cant? As this is the first game u have turned up to u plastic ****

Season ticket holder for years numnuts
As I’ve already said twice now, two out of last three home games. Lincon and Doncaster, which youd know if you went to matches or sobered up.., so slip the tampon back in and go to bed

So u can't lose without being unhappy with the performance??? Did u clap us off in them games? Were u happy with the performance? Have u got balls??

With the exception of Defoe who has played in front of bigger crowds and at a higher level, and possibly Stewart, the chances of any of the players for Sunderland who started today, there is about zero chance of any of them playing in front of anywhere near the numbers that were unfortunately there to witness it today. Going to Cheltenham on Tuesday night as underdogs is where they are, and the attendance there is realistic for what's on offer.

Watching the game today, it looked to me that these are the factors contributing to our recent performances.

Form - too many players hitting a bad run. From back to front Hoffman looks nervous, Doyle's form has dropped off, Winchester was great early season, now mediocre. Same for Neil. Evans is steady but never stands out even when at the top of his game, which he isn't at the moment. Gooch wasn't bad today, he got through some work but he just isn't consistent enough. Embleton is very talented but cannot turn that into performances. Stewart had a poor game by his standards today. Cirkin was ok, Pritchard worked his ass off and has real quality but you are never going to do well with 7-8 players out of form.

Confidence - we started today well on top and conceded against the run of play. Immediately our confidence went and we can't pass, tackle, trap a ball, clear our lines.

The pitch - state of it doesn't suit our players. Yes, I know it's the same for both sides but we have a team who want to pass the ball along the ground quickly. Our pitch stops this and makes running with the ball difficult too. The opposition tend to play football better suited to our pitch. We have the best quality squad in this division but the uneven pitch levels the playing field. 4 players in the squad who top teams have paid circa £10m for each. But they need a proper pitch to play on.

The Crowd - get on the players' backs when we aren't performing. This feeds into the confidence and it becomes a whirlpool of decline. Sometimes it goes the way and the crowd can visibly lift the team. It's up to the players how they react.
Don’t you dare blame the crowd, f***ing hell man.

Said someone who clearly doesn’t go to games .... ffs how can you seriously post this 🤣🤣

im not blaming the crowd as op has suggested however to say the fans don’t get on the players back is ridiculous... ffs they were booed off at HT again today

And wtf are @AshbrookeMackem @jonnyat87 @INigle @Yeltas @West_Winger doing liking your utter bollocks of a post ?!?!?
I liked it because today the crowd only turned when the players really had given up. Goal down, and the crowd were still trying, the players weren't.

And normally I actually agree. The crowd are frustrating as owt with the audible groaning and shouting at every mistake etc.

I just didn't think that was the crowds fault today.

We were basically lucky to be 2-0 down at half time then we huffed and puffed our way through the second half, against the worst team in League 1, at home. I thought the crowd were ridiculously patient, it was like a goal was scored when Defoe and Matete came on, such was the noise.
