Form, Confidence, The Pitch, The Crowd

And another is?

Moans and groans. I would say with some certainty those will have a bearing on a player's decision-making. It's interesting when watching another game, on TV for example, and if a simple pass goes astray there's little to no reaction from the crowd. I realise that our current circumstances and form play a big part in that frustration but nothing positive or productive can come from it.

Watching the game today, it looked to me that these are the factors contributing to our recent performances.

Form - too many players hitting a bad run. From back to front Hoffman looks nervous, Doyle's form has dropped off, Winchester was great early season, now mediocre. Same for Neil. Evans is steady but never stands out even when at the top of his game, which he isn't at the moment. Gooch wasn't bad today, he got through some work but he just isn't consistent enough. Embleton is very talented but cannot turn that into performances. Stewart had a poor game by his standards today. Cirkin was ok, Pritchard worked his ass off and has real quality but you are never going to do well with 7-8 players out of form.

Confidence - we started today well on top and conceded against the run of play. Immediately our confidence went and we can't pass, tackle, trap a ball, clear our lines.

The pitch - state of it doesn't suit our players. Yes, I know it's the same for both sides but we have a team who want to pass the ball along the ground quickly. Our pitch stops this and makes running with the ball difficult too. The opposition tend to play football better suited to our pitch. We have the best quality squad in this division but the uneven pitch levels the playing field. 4 players in the squad who top teams have paid circa £10m for each. But they need a proper pitch to play on.

The Crowd - get on the players' backs when we aren't performing. This feeds into the confidence and it becomes a whirlpool of decline. Sometimes it goes the way and the crowd can visibly lift the team. It's up to the players how they react.

Blame the fans seesh

I think that was a great post until the last line. I agree it doesn't help when the crowd get on the players' backs, but we were playing the shittest team in the league that we should have walloped, it's understandable that the crowd are going to get frustrated. This will always happen, particulary as we are chucking away automatic promotion.

Your point about the pitch is spot on though. Not wanting to overly defend the team, but when your first touch bounces up over your head because there's been a bobble, you're never going to be able to play a slick passing game. We lost possesion so many times today because we couldn't control the football.

Mate its not about current issues or form... its about 5 or six relegation battles in a row...then back to back relegations and now 4 pathetic years in a tin pot league. Throw in another playoff final defeat and 4 total stuffings this season alone...and You think the 39000 who turned up today can't have a moan and a groan ffs. Do you even go to the match???

The crowd ? Fuck off man. I’m sick of this. How many f***ing times?

I tell you what, let’s not bother turning up. Let’s stay away and see how we do …… if only we’d recently had a period of time where fans weren’t allowed in the stadium, we could use that as a yardstick of how well the team would do if we weren’t there to add so much pressure on them !!

Wish I could give you more likes mate...cant remember us being brilliant last season with no fans as you say. The man's a bufoon like

Fans fault:lol: nearly 40k in the third division.

How about looking at those running the club and those bottling tackles on the pitch?
This.

1. The groundsman and his staff. Shite. Shocking pitch and not one of them took the initiative to pick litter off the pitch.

2. Players soft as shite. No pride and no passion. Rolled over to the team bottom of the league.

2. Proctor and Dodds. Hopefully they never ever get put in that position again. Humped 6-0 last week and pick the same players and same tactics. Clueless.

A shit show all round.

Hopefully Roy comes in (if he doesnt rune a mile after watching that utter shite today) and sets some standards.

As a club we are a shambles, with many stealing a living out of the club, apart from the fantastic support. Nigh on 40,000 after four years of rubbish in Div 3 is beyond fantastic support.

We deserve so much better.

Blaming the crowd when the atmosphere was as good as it’s been all season
Was it though?
The atmosphere?
Seemed pretty quiet on and off the pitch
Their two goals were all they did
The crowd got going with a dodgy ref
Not the crowds fault but all I heard was moans from people I hadn't seen before
Two quotes " how can they play like this with all us here "
" I'll give it 10 minutes second half then I'm off "

I actually thought the crowd/fans/atmosphere was great today.

Sang plenty at the start, everyone in party mode.

Players looked flat.

Conceded against the run of play. Fans responded and cheered them on.

Players looked even more flat and workrate/movement dropped.

Conceded second (this time deserved)

Players heads dropped and they looked disinterested.

Deservedly booed at halftime. I didn't boo, but didn't feel sorry for them. They'd stopped running or even doing the basics. Utterly pathetic by this stage.

Second half. Fans at times roared them on. Players still not doing basics. Hardly anyone showing for the ball. No-one shouting or driving us on on the pitch.

Fans did what they could.

We did look like we at least knew what sport we were playing towards the end when we scored. But it was far too little too late.

There are times when I think our fans are too nervous. Too edgy. Too quick to audibly grumble. But today wasn't one of them.

The players let us down badly today.
