That was AT Barnsley too wasn't it? A 0-4 hammering iirc. I only remember because I was in a bloody hotel in Warrington for work at the time and had to leave the bar briefly to ring Clubcall for the score, then wished I hadn't bothered. It was something to do with his international clearance not being completed, but I don’t remember where the fault was. Obviously we should have checked it.
We played Dominic Matteo when his loan hadn’t been registered too, but that was in the league.
Ah, thank you.FGR had a player that's on loan but they hadn't received written permission from the parent club to play him in the competition. I don't know whether the parent club were happy for him to play and this lack of permission was an oversight.
In Barnsley's case, the player was ineligible as when the initial game was played he was on loan a York, recalled and then in the starting XI for the replay. To be eligible for the replay, he needed to be available for the initial match - which he wasn't cos he was on-loan elsewhere. I guess it's to stop clubs loaning or recalling players for replays.
True, and imho, the game ought to have been replayed.I was there and the guy they subbed on who should never have been on the pitch cleared the free kick we put into the box after the sending off. We had a player running in behind him who would have had a clear shot at goal.
We lost in the end because we had to keep playing Ji
It was the hideous ' gritstorm game' We lost 2-0 I think. One of the most depressing evenings ever in supporting Sunderland. That was AT Barnsley too wasn't it? A 0-4 hammering iirc. I only remember because I was in a bloody hotel in Warrington for work at the time and had to leave the bar briefly to ring Clubcall for the score, then wished I hadn't bothered.
