For all those dead against more lockdowns

And that should be everyone as people are sick to f***ing death of them. Surely you still have a tolerance level?

People watched in horror when Italy and then us were getting 1,000 deaths a day. Whilst I appreciate people are fatigued by the situation, surely watching similar on tv screens if we get back to that even the most hardened opponents of lockdown would accept that we couldn’t as a country just let that situation continue?

Secondly the economic argument has been shown by economists to be bollocks. If you get beyond a critical mass of the virus in circulation a lot of businesses, production lines etc... will simply stop by default from people Ill or self isolating. Likewise they have said consumer confidence will go through the floor more so then if it’s controlled. Controlling the spread is far better for the economy.

No one wants a 2nd lockdown but if it starts to spread too wildly we don’t help either health or the economy by just saying fuck it, let’s crack on.

Well the 'economic argument' against, such as it is, relies on a lockdown without a government support package for affected people/industries. There's no reason, beyond the political, why that needs to be the case.

I don’t think it’s a long term answer and the more we go into the more damaging I see it being longer term. I’m not necessarily sure what the answer is but I don’t think this short sightedness is it. There should definitely be something in place to protect the vulnerable and shielders, then maybe it’s going to have to eventually come down to a choice for the rest of us because we can’t keep going in and out of lockdown at the first sign of trouble.

But that’s the point isn’t it. Not going into lockdown doesn’t stop the trouble, it could exacerbate it.

It’s fine saying crack on but if 30% of people are off Ill or isolating businesses won’t be able to function and the economy will be fucked. A lot of processes, production lines etc... can’t operate unless we control the spread.

Same with other parts of the economy. People have been going to pubs and restaurants these last few months, let it run rampant and people will stay away, it will be longer until people start getting back on a plane etc...

It seems people are looking at it the wrong way and still thinking just driving on through it is better for the economy when experts are suggesting it doesn’t work

this is it in a nutshell

I think if there is a serious prospect of the virus overwhelming society to the point of NHS & production line collapse it would need to be done; but we’re nowhere near that.
A competent testing, tracking & social distancing system would have prevented this. This is a catastrophic failure of central government... only a few weeks ago everyone was being encouraged to get public transport into their offices and eat out for 50% off their dinner. Our government have encouraged actions which spread the virus and now they are imposing incredibly authoritarian measures to undo the damage they caused.

I am more than happy just doing what I've been doing. Visiting supermarkets off peak times, avoiding the pubs, gyms, casino, theatres etc, busy areas etc. I am working from home one in every two weeks. I'm not using any public transport either. Haven't even done much walking these last 2 months either.

I won't however have these silly rules about not allowed to visit family thrown in my face, they can fuck off with that.

I don't think these new "rules" will make any difference either mind.

Tbh I think lockdown was pretty much a one off. Everyone came together during it and 99% of people took it seriously. That won’t happen again. There’s far too much disillusionment after Cummings and general mismanagement, fatigue at the prospect of another lockdown and creeping conspiracy views meaning a notable minority of the population either don’t believe the virus exists or think it’s just flu.

Any future lockdowns will be nowhere near as successful as the first.

Which experts though? The ones the government have been listening to so far don’t exactly have a great track record. Lockdowns and the end of furlough will be a perfect storm for redundancies. That will just be the start.

I'm just utterly bemused at all the contradictions with these new "rules"

I mean the car sharing one is utterly hideous
