Bozo Bakota:
see Salut Sunderland article
http://salutsunderland.com/2013/12/sunderlands-12-days-of-christmas-5-fulham-2/

"Knighton was determined to take Sunderland into the foreign market and had almost signed a Yugoslav called Bozo Bakota, before enquiries implied that he wasn’t quite the player he said he was".

From Wiki:
Božo Bakota (5 October 1950 – 1 October 2015) was a Croatian footballer who throughout his entire professional football career played only for two football clubs, NK Zagreb and SK Sturm Graz. He played as a midfielder for NK Zagreb and as a forward for SK Sturm Graz during a career spanning from 1971 to 1986.

Does Jonathan Benteke count? Signed for Palace to keep his brother happy and i'm fairly sure most people have forgotten he exists.

Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh and Rashid Yekini (I think that was his name, veteran striker) all part of the Nigerian squad in USA 94. The more remembered players from that squad where Agustine Okocha (Jay Jay) and Finidi George

he was left back?tight curls

average as hell

always remember a pic in the chronicle of him, des Hamilton, garry brady etc after winning the Northumberland senior cup trophy, perez was pushed into background and looked v unwelcome in the group!!!

You're right, he was a left back.

Efan Ekoku was in that squad as well (not sure how often he played).

Same world cup bit different team, Bolivia's Jaime Moreno had two spells at Boro and scored 2 goals in 26 games.
