Take Wayne Rooney, paid over 10 million a year and is always at least a stone or two overweight because basically he eats a shit diet and doesnt train hard enough, then acts like prick everytime you see him on the pitch. I can see people turning away from football with pricks like him earning money like that.

A stone or 2 overweight ?? Who the fuck you trying to kid man...

The ultimate gloryhunter thread this, if Team GB had failed to win medals yesterday no one would have cared about the "Olympic spirit"

Pleased I'm not the only one thinking this. I was saying the same thing at work yesterday.

When you look at our athletes and the sacrifices they make in many cases for little or no money for their sport to make us all proud and give us all a lift it makes the overpaid footballers an embarrassment.

Also the cheating, diving, moaning, attitude to their sport and fellow players in football has really spoilt the game in the last several years and it seems to me to be getting worse and is a real turn off to the game.

Contrast that with the attitude and respect the athletes in the other Olympic sports hold for each other. Even the boxing I watched yesterday when our gb guy won in a shock against the world champion. The respect they had for each other was amazing. The guy he beat even stood at the side of the ring afterwards and held the ropes for our guy to exit the ring victorious.
The spirit, the dedication, the effort and the excitement in the olympics has been wonderful and truly inspiring. To be honest I haven't even watched the football as I'm not interested in letting them brig the spirit down.

Then even when some sportsmanship and bad form does take place in the badminton the authorities show some balls and take the ultimate action. The football governing bodies should be watching and hanging their heads in shame for the lack of balls they continue to show.

I'm so caught up in Olympic feaver it is untrue. I am so loving it eve more than I thought I would.

Great post and I agree with all of it, especially the not watching the football cause it will bring down the Olympic spirit bit...

No surprise you don't agree with the op like

Oh, I had similar feelings during the Pearce era. The mindnumbing monotomy of just going thru the motions without going anywhere while the players never suffered...

I have to agree with you. It's one hell of a knee jerk. Obviously there's a lot of truth in what has been posted on here, but there's a lot of sentimental claptrap too.

It's anything but. If you actually read the thread. Most have highlighted the atitude of the people who didn't win, they way they felt they had let people down, despite almost collapsing with the effort they had given.
Then comparing it to footballers who can still run off the pitch after another defeat and still claim that they gave everything to try and win.

Absolute horse meat.

interesting thread

footballers in this country now are paid far to much for achieving so little. been like that quite some time and a lot of people have lost the love for football because of it. But quite a number of supporters have been sucked in by the "money" aspect. FA Cup win or PL 13th place..... so many think the 13th is the better option because "there's so much money at stake".

How many posting on this thread have also been crying about the lack of signing so far as well? Seems to be lot of spoilt brats in the supporting side as well who think we should just buy buy buy no matter what the cost.

Accept football for what it is. Don't put the players on a pedestal unless they deliver achievements worth it.

Mind, there's a massive difference in the fans too. A lot of people go to games to spend 90 minutes facing the away fans, hurling abuse. When some fans applauded a great sporting act from a rival player (Henry), there was a week long inquest about it on here.

Sick of football in general.

Yeah and when they attend the bread and butter competitions that makes up 99% of their competing history they give it all? Are you really that naive?
They all die to get into the competing circuits that offer money, The Diamond league are a prime example having compititors "missing" turning up for their country or just give a token performance to enhance their chances of a big payday in the league.

The only "true" olympic spirit I find is in really obscure competions I´m afraid.

Agree with the sentiment but you're comparing the very best in the world at the pinnacle of their careers to average, everyday footballers in a 38 game season - not a fair comparison imo. I don't think Messi or Iniesta lack passion or dignity. A lot of footballers are wankers, but how many take an interest in athletics other than for 2 weeks every 4 years?

I think this has just brought into sharp focus what people have been feeling about football for years.

Should see how some of the fans gan on marra.
