The lack of passion and effort and pride has never been more obvious when compared with truly outstanding athletes truly giving their all for their nations.

What a bunch of overpaid, overrated egotisitical fuckwits.

hard to disagree, and these weren't even the worst of them.

I can see a lot of people turning their back on football for good as a result of the Olympics.

As a sport it has lost its way badly.

Agreed.

Compare them to the bloke who had to be helped out of his boat after winning silver in the rowing; he was dead on his feet. Could barely even speak and when he did he just said how he'd let everyone down, was heartbreaking.

Spot on mate they are fcuking embarrising. See sturidge behaving like a petulent child too. Overpaid *****. Embarrasment to our sport.

Good post. Was gonna text the same to my mate earlier and it started pissing me off so much I just though ah fuck it and didn't. Nowt will ever change. The game is too far gone. They call all do with looking to some of these athletes. True inspirations.

I've got to say I'm tempted. All of the things that made me fall in love with Sunderland-Pride, sense of place and identity, community, passion-have been far more apparent here than they have while Sunderland have been in the Prem for the past few years. I don't think I've willed anyone on like Jess Ennis and co at Sunderland for a very long time sadly.

Aye, I'd rather pay £30 to go and stare at Jessica Ennis for 90 mins every Saturday

Seriously though, the interviews after each event show up the footballers for the miserable gets they are with their huge sense of entitlement.
Coming straight after that risible Euro performance too!
Still got high hopes for next season though and at least we have a manager now who gives good interview himself!

When someone went to console Sturridge he brushed him away - upset yes, but footballers need to relearn some humility.

Can't disagree with that. Passion & pride in what they do which you rarely see from footballers now

Best thread I've read on this board for ages! These athletes are doing it for pride and love of sport which makes it quite apt that the footballers couldn't find it in themselves when there isn't a big fat cheque at the end of it!

Exactly

And it's our hard earned money that funds their ridiculous lifestyles. Footballing role models are few and far between. Kompany at Man City seems a top bloke but he sticks out as there are so many arseholes in football.
