Yes.. there is a chance that some.. not all, clubs could join every year. ;)

EDIT: But only one club per season.^
Further clue?

Sunderland have had 2 big chances to join the group.. Newcastle 1.. as far as I can see.
I should have got it from that clue.

Yes.. The 12 have won all three major English Trophies.
So, if next season* Leicester win the FA Cup and we win the league cup that would add two to the list. However, there's currently no team that has won both cups but not the league, but there are 5 that have won the league cup and lost an FA Cup Final, and 3 that have won the FA Cup and lost a league cup final, and none of them have won the league, so can you name them? :)

Won FA Cup but lost league cup and haven't won the league - Bradford, Bolton, Southampton

Won League Cup but lost FA Cup - Stoke, QPR, Middlesbrough, Luton, Birmingham

Built the Clock stand too I think, and stands at other clubs round the country.

So, how did our Leitch main stand differ, uniquely, from all the others?
[/QUOTE]
Our main stand had red painted lattice work. The others had blue: goodison, ibrox, fratton park

The lattice was painted red in the middle of the cup winning season of 73

And who was his new signing who was watching from the stand that day?

I used to know this. I do know they finished either one above or below South Shields in the 2nd Division that season.

Now this proves that your memory isn’t always accurate.....many years ago I used to buy a magazine called Football Handbook and remember reading about Southamptons perfect season in there and it was one of those bits of trivia that stuck in my head. As posted I remember it as them finishing 14th but I’ve just looked at Wiki to check where Shields finished and that has Saints as finishing 11th, with Shields in 13th.

At least wait till he's posted my prize before you challenge the answer

In a similar vein, I was convinced I'd read somewhere that Norwich City did it in 78/79, but it turns out that was the season they set the record for most draws in a season, so I was obviously confusing the two. They did have a season in the 70s when they won 13, drew 14 and lost 15, and another when they won 15 drew 14 and lost 13, so I guess a combination of all of these things merged into one in my memory.
Right, clearer now. I don't know but I reckon Lancashire will figure. Or Sheffield.
Neither of those

That's exactly where I remember it from. I've recently picked up both Marshall Cavendish 1970s football partworks off eBay, and they're still good reads.

That South Shields eventually went to Gateshead, but here they are playing Man Utd, Wolves, West Ham!
After London, which English town or city has had the most different football league clubs?
Burton? Accrington?
