Football isnt diverse enough according to stormzy

“Asked specifically about just 6.7 per cent of senior roles in the game being taken by people who are black or mixed heritage, despite 39 per cent of footballers being black or mixed heritage, the 29-year-old said: "That statistic is embarrassing. I don't think it is anything short of embarrassing.”

So what he really wants is over representation, don’t blame him tbh, strike while the irons hot.

Give it a few year and you’ll have a minority of say 6-7% representing about 45% of any role of worth.

That is 60% more replies for white people though from the same amount of applicstions. Thats a huge difference
Nice use of statistics. If 2 white people heard back and 1 non-white did, that’s 100% more, but only one more person. If it was 75% white heard back and 15% non-white, I’d say it’s a massive issue. Ultimately, 15-24% is negligible. You’ll never get exact numbers unless you have a set quota. And we all know how useful those are around the world. If it was 21% white and 19% non-white, would you say that’s a problem? If it was 24% non-British names and 15% British names would anyone complain? It also bears no relevance to an industry with, at the top, 43% of the playing base. Now where is the complaints about whites being underrepresented?

It'll make it impossible for black managers to get a job without coming under scrutiny whether they've got the position on merit or on quota

It inadvertently just makes it worse. Well it may be inadvertent or cynical. One can decide on their own.

You do have the numbers. If you look at the study. It isnt negligible. Its statistically significant.

Would i say 10% incresse out of that was a problem? Sure. I would but not as significant a problem

As to your last bit, absolutely people would complain. And theyd be right to

White people aren't a minority though. They don't suffer discrimination in this country, like the discrimination you mentioned here

So what’s the solution then? Unless you have a proportional number quota, one group will most likely be disadvantaged. I don’t see how this applies to an industry with a 43% non-white representation at elite level either. One black manager in the PL is 5%, which is over representation of the 3% population. 0 is obviously under. Can’t have 0.6 of a manager. What’s the solution so that everyone is fairly represented

That's not discrimination. Discrimination would mean there would be 0% replies of anyone but white.

There's lots of other factors here, maybe white people are just better qualified? It's not the employers job to make people better qualified for the sake of diversity in higher positions.

Yes, and rightly so, though by your logic they shouldn't complain because 60% different is the same for everyone ('deal with it').

British citizens from ethnic minority backgrounds have to send, on average, 60% more job applications to get a positive response from employers compared to their white counterparts, according to researchers at Nuffield College's Centre for Social Investigation (CSI).

They sent around 3,200 fake job applications for both manual and non-manual jobs - including chefs, shop assistants, accountants and software engineers - in response to adverts on a popular recruitment site between November 2016 and December 2017.

All of the fictitious candidates were British citizens, or had moved to the UK by the age of six, and had identical CVs, covering letters and years of experience.

The only thing that they changed was the applicant's name, which they based on their ethnic background.

While 24% of white British applicants received a call back from UK employers, only 15% of ethnic minority applicants did.
Compared to White British applicants, people of:
  • Pakistani heritage had to make 70% more applications
  • Nigerian and South Asian heritage 80% more applications
  • Middle Eastern and north African heritage 90% more applications

But yeah employers only want the best talent.
So 3200 applications were allegedly sent out to who knows what companies six years ago and we all have to believe there's still a problem now ? I'll stick with my own eyes and ears thanks not some knocked up Nuffield college project..

You don’t have to believe it nope.

But what makes you think it’s bogus?
