Football isnt diverse enough according to stormzy

It could be a culture thing, football isn't as big in those countries as it is in Europe, Africa and South America.

Lots of Asain countries (Indian etc) prefer cricket do have loads of cricket players.

Yeah I think it probably is. The problem is people get bogged down in the is it racist debate. I wish it wouldn’t as I think there should be a general curiosity in stuff like this. Ultimately a country should harness its resources to the max. Like we should be tapping into that Asian resource and producing even more quality footballers for our country. As one example.

Sadly because it usually comes back to ah the white people are racist which is just utter bollocks to me and stifles / biases the act of actually looking into this stuff and prevents us optimising our human capital!

With things like racism you need to work backwords in Sport and get rid of those at the top who are rancid. I am not a fan of a quota as you should always have the best people, its ensuring the all of the people are available and that is where the problem starts.

Isn't that not why he's launching the scheme in the first place? If no black people were interested in non-playing roles in football, then this won't get off the ground.

I really don't see the issue here. Celebrity notices that there's not many black people working in non-playing roles in football (which, whichever caveat you put on it, is true), so uses his fame to launch a scheme to give opportunities to people who wouldn't otherwise have them. Hardly a crime. It's not perfect, but to me this one bloke trying to help, and if it gets a few talented people through the door who wouldn't have been able to previously, then surely it's been worth it?

As I said before, it's quite bizarre that Sunderland fans given the complete lack of talent and competence we've had in non-playing roles for literally decades wouldn't welcome more talented people into the recruitment pool.
Everyone wants more talent and talented people. The idea that the best way to do this is to over represent an ethnic group to tick a box is ridiculous.

Calling racism or “showing that you care” is far easier than actually coming up with intelligent solutions to problems. So many talentless people given the air time to spout this shite too

Yep the whole thing needs to be framed in the terms of resource optimisation rather than race. It just hamstrings everything and frankly allocates blame where it’s not warranted. How can we get the most out of our people nothing more or less.

No-one has mentioned box-ticking. I don't think anyone has mentioned racism. This is about getting talented people the experience they need to be able to get jobs in professional football.

If the talented folk at the FA had intelligent solutions to this problem, we wouldn't need rappers to have take things into their own hands.

I’d love to know who these talented people are tbh. I find it a hilarious concept that football clubs owners, who desperately spend millions of pounds of their own money to stay on the PL gravy train, overlook talent based on ethnicity.

Following on from the recent RAF and Police experiences It is plain to see where this will end up. In the USA the Supreme Court under Justice Thomas recently asked "What is diversity? I have no idea what it means". The Court is about to end affirmative action and it appears most Americans agree with them. Pick the best person for the job on merit only. That's a meritocracy.

It doesn’t seem to be so much about players, as about the other roles in clubs.

43% of players being black or mixed race, and only 6% of senior roles being so says something isn’t right somewhere to me. It would be interesting to see how this compares with the number of applications for those roles.
So do you want targets to ensure there is , for example 75% white British players as at present they are chronically underrepresented.
players are hired based upon ability….can this not apply to other roles.

He was right up to the middle of last season football for a Sunderland supporter hadn't been diverse enough.. It had been either shite or really shite.

It's not ridiculous. There's a logic to it in that it encourages young people that race to play the sport, that then has the knock on effect of meaning that talent pool is being utilised better and thus making the top level better

You may not agree but the concept isn't ridiculous. David Cameron doing this a few years ago is why our politics has started to represent more and more ethnic minorities

so when whites are over represented in some roles in football its a issue that needs to be addressed , but when bames are over represented in some roles in football ( 43% of players) no action required

i see how this diversity things works now

Comical that the ethnicity of the England womens team was called into question at the euros and they went on to win the bloody thing. You get the feeling some would have been happy to have a more diverse team and get knocked out in the semi-final. “Hard luck girls but at least we had a diverse team”.

I think it's more black people aren't even given the chance in these roles.
