Football isnt diverse enough according to stormzy

I think all these things are worth looking at. Clearly no issue for young black players but what about Asians. Why are we not seeing them come through in the same numbers. On the admin side the same - why with such a high % of black players do we not see that reflected in the post game playing roles. I think it’s really interesting - the contentious stuff of course is what you do about the findings!

I work In financial services. It’s the complete reversal. Lots of Indians / Asians but hardly any black managerial level representation. As I say I find it interesting but difficult to identify root cause and actions..

I agree re: a lack of Asian footballers, but if those numbers increase then white footballers would be even more under represented.

The current thinking is:

Non-white over representation = good
White over representation = bad

If black players are over represented then is that because they are skilled at their profession?

If white managers, coaches and administrators are over represented then is that because they are skilled at their profession?
I'd say then non playing side is about 30 years behind the playing side .Black players were here and there back in the day

We realised what an asset they were ,there were plenty black kids around to go for and now its commonplace
Its like the old racist guy in the Sheepskin has been faded out in management .Its moving on

I'm sorry but this is absolutely ridiculous, football has to be the most diverse sport in the world and to introduce an initiative where you have to hire a certain % of people based on their skin colour is very dangerous.
I like to believe people are chosen for a role/job on merit not skin colour, this is going to open all kinds of shite if they are not careful.

We need to stop all this shite like. It just fuels a stupid petty racism debate for no reason. Professional football players are picked on merit, not the colour of their skin.
But they have to be in the system to be picked .For players thats been a progression to where we are . Its clear some areas are under represented

Football isnt diverse in coaching and people within leadership positions at clubs. How many managers are from URG's in the premier league?

In an ideal world skin colour would not matter but certain ethnicities are under represented in lots of areas of life. I do believe a lot of it is cultural separation rather than racial bias these days though and maybe focus should be on what they could achieve rather than them only seeing for example, county lines style stereotypes at influential school ages.

I'm a big Sol Campbell fan but even I can see that he's tapped differently - I think that's why he's not getting a look in
Oh, without a doubt. He was just the first name that came to hand but can he be any worse a bet than perennial failures who stay on the merry go round, irrespective of how many times they have to, "dust wasel's off and go again"?

Not many black goalkeepers, is that also racist?
Racist arguably not, but it's probably linked to athleticism and being more likely to be shoved in to an outfield position as a kid. It's like how the NFL used to have, still does to an extent, a stereotype of a QB being a tall, relatively un-athletic white pocket passer. Although that trends changing in recent years. Lamar Jackson smashed college as a QB, and still had some sections saying he should move to WR because he was "quick". Despite QBs being the most important player on the pitch.

It could be a culture thing, football isn't as big in those countries as it is in Europe, Africa and South America.

Lots of Asain countries (Indian etc) prefer cricket do have loads of cricket players.
