Football isnt diverse enough according to stormzy

Their are excellent studies out their that show if 2 applicants with identical CV’s apply for a job- the CV with the non British name is less likely to get to interview. Less likely to get an interview by 25%. So nothing to do with who’s more suited for the job.
If that's true, then indeed that's biased and racist too. But it should be about qualifications and experience and not nationality, skin colour and gender because that would be sexist and racist too.
That's my point. Replacing one bias with another moves us sideways not forwards.

I think you havent seen the full details....Its not about players , its about off the field e.g coaches /management/admin/directors etc .....SKY said , while there is 39% of players that are diverse , there is only 6% working off the field behind the scenes.

My view is you pick the best people for the work required regardeless of anything else....
5% of UK black/mixed race.
Black people disproportionately good at football, but the same as everyone else when it comes to working behind the scenes?

Is it though?

That’s hardly a proportionate representation of ethnicity in the UK now is it? I guarantee that more than 6.7% of UK citizens don’t identify as white.
Less than 6.7% of UK population is black or mixed race.
Comical that the ethnicity of the England womens team was called into question at the euros and they went on to win the bloody thing. You get the feeling some would have been happy to have a more diverse team and get knocked out in the semi-final. “Hard luck girls but at least we had a diverse team”.
The mad thing was, was that the number of black players in the squad exactly matched the proportion of the population that was black. That wasn't good enough for the bbc though, they demanded more black people. What's their game?

British citizens from ethnic minority backgrounds have to send, on average, 60% more job applications to get a positive response from employers compared to their white counterparts, according to researchers at Nuffield College's Centre for Social Investigation (CSI).

They sent around 3,200 fake job applications for both manual and non-manual jobs - including chefs, shop assistants, accountants and software engineers - in response to adverts on a popular recruitment site between November 2016 and December 2017.

All of the fictitious candidates were British citizens, or had moved to the UK by the age of six, and had identical CVs, covering letters and years of experience.

The only thing that they changed was the applicant's name, which they based on their ethnic background.

While 24% of white British applicants received a call back from UK employers, only 15% of ethnic minority applicants did.
Compared to White British applicants, people of:
  • Pakistani heritage had to make 70% more applications
  • Nigerian and South Asian heritage 80% more applications
  • Middle Eastern and north African heritage 90% more applications

But yeah employers only want the best talent.
Were the employers not a bit suspicious when Alan Thompson, Shamima Khan and Ade Adebayo all had identical CVs?

"Forty-three percent of players in the Premier League in 2021 were Black, as were 34 percent of players across the next three divisions that make up the top 92 clubs in the English football pyramid.31 May 2022" - stormzy reckons not diverse enough, those figures suggest otherwise.

As of 2011 approx 3% of the population were black, 4% Asian etc.

So naturally, to be equally represented those are the levels to aspire to in equality.

To expect any higher than that would be equally racist against whites or am I missing something?
Absolutely bang on
He's a racist the same as Anthony Joshua is, there seems to be a absence in the media of calling out people of colour who are actively and unapologetically racist, presumably to avoid being tagged a racist themselves.
👌👌
Christ wait till he finds out about polo or showjumping
It'll be swimming /horse racing /darts and snooker next

In an ideal world skin colour would not matter but certain ethnicities are under represented in lots of areas of life. I do believe a lot of it is cultural separation rather than racial bias these days though and maybe focus should be on what they could achieve rather than them only seeing for example, county lines style stereotypes at influential school ages.
Humans will always find something to squabble about. Look at the hatred between some people in our home nations that are the same skin colour.
I beg to differ

Massively successful music careers they went onto have anarl.

6% is still twice as many Black people as are in the general population (3%).
It's not possible to show racism in, say coach selection, without knowing the racial make up of those with the appropriate coaching badges and of the appropriate age for the roles- it's the relevant pool which is important.
Also, culturally, various groups tend to prefer different types of job.
There are disproportionately high numbers of Indian doctors, Chinese STEM students/academics, Jewish lawyers and accountants, Black musicians, actors and sportspeople etc. There is nothing necessarily 'wrong' in this which needs fixing. Certain communities encourage certain career paths more - imbalance can't automatically be attributed to racism.

I can imagine that there might well be some ongoing discrimination against Black people in managerial roles in clubs (although I would hope and expect that it's rapidly diminishing) but just saying "[Y%] of professional footballers are Black but only [X]% of football Club Directors (or whatever) are and this proves clubs are racist" is just fallacious.

yes well said , i quite agree.......so why do people like Stormzy / SKY etc think its an issue......creating problems when there isnt any , this probably causes more racist tension by highlighting it
