Florida

Aye didn’t enjoy it at all tbh. Have to give a shout out to San Francisco mind, that was a brilliant place.

Only been the once mind, so would definitely try again. I just didn’t get it first time.
I'm amazed. San Diego LA many amazing beaches and beach towns, yosemite and sequoia and then the theme parks and so much besides.

Oh and Yosemite was amazing. Named after an Apple operating system, it had a lot to live up to...haha.

Tell you what, ignore me. I think I’ve had a brain fart with initial comment and probably thinking of just LA!

California is much more interesting and you can do a park if you must. Six flags and knotty berry were both class. I was with my daughter mind.
Got to agree was massively underwhelmed with Disney, Animal Kingdom was ok but Epicot was a waste of time. The avatar ride in Animal Kingdom is a must do, I still can't believe how real it felt, was laughing like a little kid the whole ride. Universal studios is ok, Islands of adventure is canny. Out of the lot we enjoyed Volcano Bay the most.

looking to go to Florida next year, bout September. Didn’t realise how expensive it is to get there. Do people just use virgin or Thomson or is there other options, cheaper preferably.

Was hoping to pay no more that £1500 for the hotels and flights.

Is international drive still the place to stay or is Disney/universal a better option? Been 20yr since I was there.

I-Drive is only handy if you don't hire a car.

It's gone downhill IMO and is full of scratters and 40 year old fat bassas in football shirts dragging their skanky kids behind them. Avoid like the plague. It's also VERY busy.
Kissimmee is much better IMO on or around US192. Renting a villa if you are renting a car is the best way to go.

Busy and dirty was my view of LA, especially Hollywood, what a dump.

This ^^^
Go to LA. Pick up ya car and head north up the Big Sur. Don't spend a day in LA if you can avoid it.

I'm here now, 19 days cost us 2300 ish for the 3 of us. Thought it was a decent price but hoping sumit cheaper pops up next time. We are on international drive just for the food and that really, all sorts to choose from within walking distance.

Not sure what dates best come cos last time I came the last week in August till the first week in September it rained every single day. Then this time we came end of September till middle of October and still rained quite a bit for the first week and a half or so.

Love the place, but difficult to do on a budget these days. I’ve been a few times and shop around, still cost me £1200+ for park tickets for 3. Undercover Tourist deliver tickets to your door, very reasonable. Also there’s a lad on eBay sells tickets for Seaworld and Bushgardens, for 1/2 price, looks dodgy but I used him and they were spot on.

Virgin from Manchester starts around £300, you can get cheap hotels on IDrive.
September just after the school hols is the best time to go, imo.

Have you tried Mei Asian China-buffet, just north of Bahama Breeze. Very cheap, and excellent quality and selection of food?

Never tried it I will try get there like

If I can talk my Lass into a Chinese I'll get a uber there. Normally it's "ya came all the way over here and want a Chinese what ya can eat anytime at home"

It’s a no-frills type of place mind, but the food is great and very cheap. If she likes a nice meal out, try bahama breeze, but it’s very busy on weekends. Enjoy

How does an Uber work out, compared to a hire car? Are they reliable, when picking up from parks and restaurants etc. Been eating it up, but hate the thought of sitting around in the heat, after a long day in the parks! Also like the freedom of jumping in the car and going to the malls.

Went last year and planning to go back about May next year. Already put a pound deposit down on a 2 bed apartment at Blue Tree Resort in Lake Buena Vista. It had everything we needed last time and is in a great location (5 min drive to Disney, 15 min drive to Universal with loads of Supermarkets and restaurants nearby). Will probably fly from Ponteland again as the missus doesn't want to add extra travelling time onto the flight (by going from London etc) although I wouldn't really mind. The Thomson Dreamliner was really good anyway so can't complain too much. Will probably do the same parks again as the kids are two years older but might change around the time spent in each a bit compared to last time.

Never had a car over there personally don't think I would trust myself on them roads like. Uber is cheap and reliable the likes of universal etc are 7 dollars To international drive. Disney is about 15 dollars compared to 45/50 in a taxi. Even jumping in a uber to get food is never more than 5 or 6 dollars. There's that many Uber's they normally turn up within minutes.

If it was me and it wasn't a kids thing, I'd stay around downtown/ Church Street Station. A lot more walkable than having to drive/ get an Uber everywhere.

That being said, I agree with other people. I don't really see the appeal of the parks without children, California is awesome, but to me it's going to be more expensive than Orlando. I liked Nashville myself, loads of things to do and a good night out, the food was decent too. Although again, it's probably not as cheap or easy to fly too. I'd think it's fair to say that Orlando and New York are the cheapest and easiest places to fly to from the UK.

I liked LA. Hollywood is very underwhelming isn't it, but once you get kind of used to the places, I found it was pretty cool. It's certainly not obvious where to actually go and where is actually good. I loved Melrose (although I gather it's gone down hill now and is more commercialised), Santa Monica is one of my favorite places.

I didn't drive there mind, I got taxis/ Ubers and used their subway thing.

I don’t really like LA but everywhere else I’ve been in California I liked except for cold rainy tramp ridden San Francisco.

If anyone is going to LA and needs a driver PM me my mate out there is a taxi driver. Great lad even though he’s a taff he used to date a lass from The Barnes area!

That is a very good point, is it still hot in October?

Cheers for this. I wouldn’t mind going from London or waiting til late to book flights from Newcastle. I’d like to stay in Disney but it’s not a necessity. No kids or owt just the two of us.
Yes mate I'm there atm.85degrees at 5.pm it was.always go Oct us, class weather
