Florida Shootings

I've ended up in dodgy area purely by accident many times when in the States. The last being when I decided to walk back to my hotel from Cowboy Stadium after the Pacquiao/Clottey fight. It was only after about 4 miles that I realised that I was going in the wrong direction.

I'm not sure how dodgy the area was but at one stage I came across a bridge that I had to walk under. On the other side of the road was 4/5 latinos. One of them lifted their t-shirt up and I'm sure there was a gun. I was shitting myself so much I never paid too much attention.

On another occasion, when I was living in Cleveland, I was at a party at a Frat House and decided to walk off to get some more beer. Not realising that the street I was going through at the time was gang land. Luckily I was so pissed I didn't know.. and no-one was around. But a week later there was a shooting on the street.

So it is possible to be in the wrong place for just being stupid

dont' get me wrong I've ended in soem less than salubriuos parts fo towns and cities all over the shop. these guys were quite seasoned haveing done south america and many other places. thing is in the nmsot part you migth end up mugged at worse not blasted to kingdom come.

pissed up and in good spirits peopel do lots of silly things especially if its in the attainment of sex, drugs or more alcohol

I was shocked at the statistics being quoted.....

Hire cars accounted for 43% of all armed robberies in the Sarasota area
And 83% of all murders

I thought they had clamped down on this in Florida
This will damage the tourist industry

thats because tourists get lost and end up in the nicer parts of towns...

I dont' think it will harm florida a great deal. 90% never get further than orlando

whats this ive heard about you being the "the top man" in canary wharf these days, i hear your serving up to all the traders and that, essex connections eh?

naaawteeee

I spent my last 5 summer holidays in the Sarasota area. Spending loads of time on Siesta keys and Longboat Key, two very very nice areas, chilled and relaxed and never seem any bother.

I had to exchange our hire car a few years back and on th the way to the airport you can see some really dodgy places, places that you wouldnt really want to be lost in.

I guess its like any other city on the USA or indeed the world it will have its down trodden areas.

These two kids have been either very unlucky or very stupid.

I doubt it will affect tourism though.I'll be back later this year

Sorry if SEB but I have full sympathy for the families and friends of the 2 guys shot in Florida - but it seems pretty obvious to me that they weren't up to any good.

Why else would they have been in that area at that time of the morning and 12 miles away from where they were staying? Not somewhere you would 'stumble' across!!

Its easy done man, when I first came to Sunderland (16 years ago) I lived in Panns Bank student digs on the river bank.....Got pissed and took a wrong turning, thought I had been abducted by aliens and dumped in one of those shanty towns in South Africa. Spoke to one of the security lads later and found out it was much worse than that, Id ended up in Hendon:lol:

at a guess I'd say both... many of us do very stupid things and just don't get unlucky

they were kidnapped and killed as part of an initiation. this hasnt been made public yet though

to be honest the initiation thing does have an ounce of sense to the story.
