Fletcher

Agree with previous post about him not being suited to our new style of play. He was much better when he had Sessegnon running around him making things happen. What is making me run out of patience is that Fletcher does not seem to give a shite. His performances are so lackluster and half arsed. He loses the ball almost every time he gets it or alternatively he is strolling around 10/15 yards away from where a clearance up field is made. At least Altidore tends to put himself about a bit and get hold of the ball. Wickham, though, needs to be upfront at QPR.

Every time the ball goes into Wickham, it sticks. He's big and strong, he's got a trick in him, can run (albeit his size means it takes a while to get top speed), and he brings the team 15 yards up the pitch every time he gets it. We will create more, score more and get better results playing off CW through the centre. He is a much better all-round CF.

Fletcher ends every attack. He is incredibly weak, which means on the rare occasion he actually gets his body in front of the defender, he's off balance permanently and this affects his touch and awareness. He also can't win a header for love nor money (same reason, eased out of the way all the time) and he wouldn't win a race against Steve Bruce. Every time it goes to Fletcher, it's a dead end. You just cannot play to his strengths, because he has none (as a lone striker). He's just a poacher, who we just can't use in a starting lineup. His only use is from the bench, if we are pushing for a goal and the game is stretched, where his penalty box lurking can be useful.

Today, even Jozy showed more in 30 seconds of coming on than Fletcher has in 2 matches. It's pace, strength and desire. Pure and simple.

The thing the boils my piss about him is him jogging back 10yrds away from the centre half walking the ball out. Why cNt he go and out him under pressure, make him play the ball from inside his half instead of getting to the half way line.
Aye that was boiling my piss as well, Altidore was exactly the same, Whickham did a a bit of chasing have to be fair.

Yep, system doesn't suit him but he isn't trying to adapt and in nature if you fail to adapt you perish. If we're going to play 433 then CW need to be in the middle with AJ and Buckley with side, until we sign another forward (I hope we get at least one).

Fletcher is terrible. Offers nothing, and opponents central defenders have sod all to do when Fletcher is playing. Fletch more suited to 4-4-2 and so he would do ok in the championship or the scottish league - but he is a waste of a shirt for us.

I've always been a fan of his. Never posted negatively about him as his goals kept us up in his first season. Last season he was mostly injured but unless he has been told not to close defenders down he was a disgrace yesterday. If it had been jozy ambling about like him and not closing anyone down I would have been livid. Unless he shapes up he needs to be dropped.

Was on hand to score if rodwell missed his header. Also its doubtful if rodwell would have had such a clean run to score if fletcher wasnt holding the defender at bay.

Add in he toiled v 3 centre halves all day and probably would have put away at least one of wickhams chances. Solid 6or7 out of 10

Cant hold the ball up, doesnt run, doesnt hold players off, terrible touch, doesnt bring people into play but aye other than that solid.

I'm fed up with him like. The "he's had no pre season" argument can't even be used now. He offers nothing to the team and Wickham looked far more threatening even out on the wing.
Let's hope Bruce comes in with an offer.

Not the easiest job playing up against three centre halfs yesterday. He tried covering the angles on multiple occasions yesterday.

What else is he meant to do?

"A fit Fletcher will be like a new signing"

"Give him a full preseason and he'll be banging them in again"

"Anyone who can't see he's our best striker is an idiot"

Regular sentiments posted on here this summer...

I think he is finished is the Premier League unless he can find a team that plays 442.

He hasn't got the strength to play up front on his own and he hasn't got the mobility to play any of the more fashionable formations that are used by practically everyone in the Premier League.

I honestly thought he would come good for us once fully fit again but I've totally changed my mind. I'd take any reasonable offer and get a mobile striker in.

It's a difficult job and he's the least suited of the 3 to do it.

He can only play in 451 if we expect to have a lot of territorial advantage. He doesn't have the attributes to get on the end of our long, inaccurate passes, and then keep it.

If yesterday was a shop window exercise, he's not going to be moving this window.
