With a cup win under our belt we inevitably slow down in the league falling to 13th place in April but a strong finish with 3 wins out of the last 4 sees us in a comfortable 9th place and an epic Steve Bruce meltdown when we send them down and beat his 10th place finish record.

That's what's great about being a Sunderland fan. The reality might be shit, but the daydreams are mint.

Don't really understand why people are shitting themselves over Boro and Everton at home? Even Southampton away - we almost beat them last season ffs.

Everton won't be as poor under a good manager and have a fantastic squad, without the new players coming in.

Southampton are difficult to predict without knowing the manager

We always struggle against promoted sides.

I'm not bothered me. I think we are going to have a relegation scrap free season and to do that we'll need to pull off a handful of decent results. At least 6 points from the first 5 games

We thought we had an easy start last season, and we all know what happened next. At least if we have a rough start this season it's against teams mainly considered tougher.

I fully expect us to have improved too though under Big Sam. The last few seasons have a shambles so not hard.

If we're wetting the bed over playing the likes of Boro, Everton and Southampton then we might as well just pack it in and not bother. These teams are hardly world-beaters.

Fair point, but who do we expect to beat then? We got pretty shit results against most teams at some point or another.
We're a far better team than we were for most of last season. We have to beat better teams than us more often if we want to establish ourselves mid table.

This.

I saw we had Boro first home game and immedisately scanned down for the Mags games, I was on january before I remembered - it's left me with a smug expression.
