England v New Zealand - 1st Test - Lord's

Gay and Rew called up.

Robinson, Fisher and Ahmed back.
A bit unsure on Ahmed, he's very talented but hasn't played a FC game this season as he's been benchwarming at the IPL. His batting appears stronger than his bowling too.

Robinson hasn't done a lot with the ball since the opening game.

Agree on Gay, he should open and Rew should be the spare batsman.

I would have also considered Cook, despite his poor performance at Trent Bridge last year. Sonny Baker isn't ready for test cricket yet IMO.

Pleased for Gay totally deserved

Not sure about the bowling attack. Would’ve picked Potts / Cook over Fisher

Bashir 😂
Fisher is another odd one. He had a poor tour with the Lions in the winter, averaging over 40 with the ball with Surrey this summer and yet gets a test callup

I imagine Gay will play against Kent at the weekend, then I can't see him playing for us until the end of September unfortunately. Well deserved call up though, I can see him doing well!

I have always thought he looked decent, but another who seems to struggle with injuries and isn't setting the world alight this season. I'd probably have looked at Ollie Stone.

I think it was mentioned in the press release that North was on the selection panel for it.
And North has final say on selection issues.
Quite happy with that squad from a selfish Durham viewpoint. We have retained Potts and McKinney and Rhodes is an adequate replacement for Gay. I don't think McKinney is England test class yet and is best further developing with
Durham

Bashir has clearly done okay at Derbyshire so far but an average of 36 in Division 2 for a lad who can’t bat or field hardly screams pick me.

I agree, the spin options are so limited though. I like Ahmed but I wouldn't have picked him, Leach has done nothing yet this season and I don't think he's fit, Harrison and Crane I am far from sold on. Carson looks decent and I will probably get shot down a bit here but we could do a lot worse than Dom Bess. A very consistent performer at county level and worth considering in English conditions.
