The Fisherman's Friend thread brought back some good memories for me of the very first time I went to a game. Feeling a bit nostalgic now, want to join in ?

What are your own memories of your very first game ? Who did we play and how old were you ? I have sadly no memories of Roker Park as it was being torn down by the time I eventually got to Sunderland from here. What are the biggest differences between Roker and the SoL when you think back ? What is your best memory from there and what is your worst ? And the SoL likewise. If you could go back in time and relive just one home game which one would it be and why ?

Oh, and someone told me once that as a young lad watching the Lads at Roker Park he stood on some wooden thingy that his dad had built for him so he could see the pitch better. I've heard this from three different people over the years so I guess it wasn't that uncommon but am still none the wiser on what it was. Was it just a small stool or box that they took to the games ? Did you have one, too ?

You do know that a Fisherman's Friend is a lozenge and not a euphemism?

Yes, I reckon you're right. I doubt you could even bring it past security these days. But what a wonderful thing to have back then. I wish I had memories of that myself. I bet the lads using them sat on them at halftime, too. I would've. :-D

Did you have one ?

i used to kick cans around with me mate not paying much attention at roker, until the awesome Jamie Lawrence would come on then i'd stick a bottle on top of a spike and pretend it was a joystick controlling him.:lol:

i once got a smack because me dad put me on his shoulders to see the pitch and i cried.

Oh ok.

Did you have a Roker Swing, too ? :-D

I never, but I can remember them

No idea what my first game was tbh, first I remember vividly though was Gillingham Play Offs

I also remember watching England Schoolboys against Brazil at Roker Park, I had a flag and everything, still got the program in the house.
