FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

And the worst people for it are the selectors.

I'm got sympathy for the selection though. Its not as if they haven't tried every successful opening bat in county cricket first. I don't necessarily expect Roy to succeed (and he might yet) but I don't see any regular opener in the county circuit ready for test cricket. Their options were limited.

Despite my slating of Roys game in Test cricket (he wont make it as an opener - goes at the ball too much, and too hard) that was actually a pretty good ball that got him watching it again.

Agree with this but in the absence of credible alternatives he is worth a shot. Warner managed to transform himself from limited overs specialist to one of the best test openers around and hopefully Roy can replicate that. I do have my doubts however.

Yes I agree - i'm not against the selection just not overly optimistic on its chances of success.

but is the ashes the time to blood him? maybe against kiwis, or sri lanka

For me Roy is a natural talent. Let's stick with him and let him grow and develop in red ball. He has many years ahead of him. No-one else stands out atm.

wont happen but root.....id rather play an in form ballance, or vince whos failed before but is more solid

But is an ashes series time to blood them in that position? I'm not sure Ballance has ever opened certainly not at that level. I'm not knocking your suggestions but it goes to show how difficult the choices are.
