FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

The evening session was utter chod. Anderson was a huge miss. Even without wickets he controls the runs.

Ohhh then they’ll definitely score over 300 again then! That’s how it works!

Also why would you bite someone’s hand off for a lead of 51

England have been poor for too long in test cricket. However, now we finally have Buttler back in the team, Stokes back from suspension and Roy opening etc. we look much better balanced.

Lead of 51? Just 2 things wrong with that. The Aussies only scored 284 and England declared on 351 with 5 wickets still in hand...

Lack of discipline during the afternoon has costs us dear, but if we bat well we can do the same to their 3 man pace attack tomorrow. Cracking day, honours even.

Some of you lot embarrass easy mind....

I still think it’s our day. To get them out for less than 300 when they won the toss is a good day IMO

It isn't really honours even. The Aussies would have been looking for 350 - 400. We would have been looking to bowl them out for 250 - 300. We have the upper hand on paper IMO.

You said anything less than 300, that includes 300

A declaration at 351 vs 300 is 51 run lead whatever way you look at it, those were the two figures you gave. I just call em as I see em

Morning session - Even stevens. England had the brighter start despite losing the toss but Australia did manage to steady the ship.

Afternoon session - England. 5 wickets. Had them on the ropes. Don't think we missed Anderson at this point as Broad stepped up.

Evening session - Australia - Piled the runs on, became humiliating at one point. Only positive is that we got through the 2 overs without loss.

300 was par. The betting odds suggested so, if Australia had gotten 350+ it would have been their day no arguments.

I think England are marginally ahead but its pretty close.

A lot rests on whether Jimmy returns, if he doesn't and comes down to just Woakes and Broad again, it will be another tough shift for them and Australia will fancy their chances.
