FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

What a fantastic day of test match cricket. I've doubted him on here prior to today but to carry your bat all day in any test match, never mind an Ashes match, is a fantastic achievement. He's still got a lot to do but he's showed great character, true grit and determination to get his 100. What also impressed me is how, once he achieved his landmark, he seemed to reset himself and got himself into a mentality where he was back at the start of his innings, concentrating on kicking on again. Well done, Rory Burns.

Got to say, Australia didn't bowl particularly badly today. They beat the bat quite a bit but there didn't seem to be many chances went their way. Lyon is certainly going to be causing problems after tomorrow imo.

Atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. Paine said he could name 15 better grounds (he's only played in 18 test grounds) but even he must admit the crowd have played a big part today and it was only even the warm up day, Saturday is always a great day.

Root should have kicked on, his shot selection was poor to start with but once he committed to play that shot, he should have followed through with more conviction and timing. Denley, I felt was unlucky. I know some people don't think he's a capable test batsman but I thought he was distracted a little bit by the sneaky Aussie tactics with the ball change.

Two absolutely marvellous days of Test Cricket mind. A fine display of Proper Cricket and a marker set down for what could be a fantastic Series.

Ramprakash got peddled in March, didn't he. And they say coaches make no difference.

Coaches make a huge difference, just look at the ODI team before and after Bayliss took over!

Burns seems to have made slight tweaks to his technique since the Ireland game. I've thought all along this was the sort of elite coaching our batsmen have been lacking.

I've been trying to get Ramprakash peddled for about three years. The mentality today was fantastic. If that's Thorpe's doing - good for him. Always liked him as a batsman.

His stance is unorthodox but what's really winding them up is all the edges going for 4.

Good
Sporting wise not really, I’m 33 so in sport over my lifetime it’s hinours even/we’ve edged it. I don’t have the fear about them like my Mam and Dad do.

But I think Australia as a place is racist as fuck and the most overrated place in the world

@The Snowman

I have been once about 2 years ago, love the place, going back in December. With regards to racism how they have marginalised the native people is disgusting, not even allowed in some bars! When I win the lottery I am moving there and opening a school for the native kids
