FIRST ASHES TEST: Edgbaston

Couple of posters on here as well as myself - @smoker is one - have been banging on about Ramprakash as a failed batting coach for a while now. Collective wisdom seems to be coaches don't make much difference - but if that isn't a completely changed mentality from England then I don't know what is.

Completely different level of application. They have had to work f***ing hard for their wickets - even the two attacking players who nicked off - Roy and Buttler - were trying to keep it down, it wasn't wild flashes. The Aussies have had to take three excellent catches to get their wickets. The only slightly dud shot was Denly and I can't make my mind up if that was because he is just not test class - he isn't - or he was done a bit by their sneaky tactics with the ball change.

All in all - don't give your wicket away. What we've been clamouring for - for f***ing ages. Is it really a coincidence this is Thorpe's first home series?

He was a f***ing much better batsman too. Mentally.

Very good days batting from the lads. Very pleased to only be 4 wickets down. Looking forward to tomorrow's feast. Hopefully we can push on to hundred + ahead.
