There's no doubt Roy is quality but not as an opener in a test. Not yet anyway. If he learnt to sit tight and not poke at balls he'd be a solid opener. He just can't help himself though. You can see it on his face when he's nearly been done. He looks like he's thinking I'll smash you next ball.

no opener should be continuously poking at balls
 
Hildreth would be my shout. Watches the ball brilliantly. His age goes against him though as it'd only be a short term fix.

Good player but opening? Again no suggestion is a daft one given that we have struggled to find a solution. I'm probably for Burns and Vince at the moment. Fully aware of Vince's flaws but still think he is capable of some decent scores which other arent. I think they are looking at Zak Crawley but think its too early for him.

id even try an out of form moeen, he didnt do a bad job as opener

Who would you open with then? That's the fundamental issue, the total lack of options.
