Financial situation at the club

He knows a hell of a lot more than us. But for me, we did need to make changes but it was too much too soon for me.

We scraped 17th and then decided to sell our 2 best players and funded 14 additions with that. It was never going to work, it was a recipe for disaster. We needed to add some quality and instead sold what quality we had left.

I think it should have been done over a few windows taking us into this summer where a lot of the crap is out of contract.
Problem is we needed quality and quantity.

Let's not forget either that this is the man who said he never wanted us to be in a relegation battle ever again. I don't imagine he's just going to sit back and let us drift into the first division.
What are you expecting him to do though?

I never actually said he would have that money to spend; financially it leaves us in a much better position than say we had gone down in the last few years.

£10m-£15m maximum spend if the cheque book does come out , which will probably be the funds for selling Fletcher, Johnson, Giacherrini. The £40m loss in TV money will be mitigated some what by a much reduced wage bill. I wouldn't have thought any incomings would cost more than a couple of million, with 20k max p.w. And that's where hopefully we can utlise Poyet's knowledge of the lower leagues
Your original post intimated there would be £15-£20 million plus parachute money which is £24 million on top of that...........;)

whilst the wage bill will come down its not going to come close to evening out a loss in turnover of around 40% in one fell swoop......

The only consoling factor is we always come back from that league and I expect us to do it once more...........the problem is you then start the whole how do we stay in the PL cycle with its financial implications all over again.......

There's been a lot of opinions expressed. A lot of educated and not so educated points made. A lot of views expressed are based on hope rather than reality when in fact it can all be summed up in 3 simple words:

We are doomed! :(

It's a ludicrous position that we got ourselves in this position.

O'Neill spent £23 on fletcher and Johnson. 6 monts later spent £9.5m on n'diaye and graham.

Two are out on loan and the other two care struggling to even get in the team. Terrible business.

The mismanagement over years has cost us. There has been mistakes from top to bottom.

In theory yes but we all know in football it never works like that...........players and their agents hold all the power.........[DOUBLEPOST=1388753845][/DOUBLEPOST]
The monies he has put in will dictate hes going nowhere unless he takes a huge hit..............its the same reason Ashleys still at scum park..........
Any financial loss would be small in relation to his overall wealth.

i never said we'd have that much to spend. you probably don't need that to do well in that league. but he's still going to have to invest, unless he wants to own a mid table championship team.
I never said you did............any investment will not be on any sort of grand scale in the slightest though..........

This

How no one cottoned on to Bruce's comment "shopping at Harrods" and didn't see it as a red flag. Is beyond me

What are you expecting him to do though?
He's backed all his managers to varying degrees. People on here are actually calling him an asset stripper for goodness sake. If Gus' targets can be secured without spending crazy money then I've no doubt he'll make that commitment as doing nothing almost guarantees relegation.

Agree 100%. The problems were there long before this summer where our options were limited.

I can still remember the night on this messageboard when we signed Johnson, everybody was absolutely ecstatic that we'd managed to pull of a signing like him, lets not start to rewrite history here, not a single person was saying it was "terrible business".

The truly sad thing is; we've somehow managed to blow the investment we've always craved. Millions have left the club and it appears we are back to square one.

did we actually spend that much the last time we got promoted? if i remember rightly, we spent it on shite players and still got promoted with a crazy manager.

Very easy for you to say that when its not your cash though isn't it.......................
He has made his money in financials and will be very aware that any investment can go up or down. I don't think these rich men go into football to make money, rather the kudos that go with owning a football team. Those kudos are far greater for a Premier League team than a Championship side and Premier wannabe.

Indeed much as when Fletcher started with a bang he was the best striker outside the top 4 and value for money............
