Financial situation at the club

If a player is contracted to you then you can do whatever the fuck you like.
In theory yes but we all know in football it never works like that...........players and their agents hold all the power.........[DOUBLEPOST=1388753845][/DOUBLEPOST]
The capital value, or sales value will half overnight if we are relegated.
The monies he has put in will dictate hes going nowhere unless he takes a huge hit..............its the same reason Ashleys still at scum park..........

True.

I'm thinking of us staying up
I am chewing the same stuff... though my head, and my memory of all things SAFC, is telling me to stop being daft. I expect I will continue to think of this (on and off) until the Maths confirms we are down. We are crap right now but we are not alone; even teams we have gifted points to (Fulham) can't survive on our generosity

Massive difference in the fact that Ashley and Newcastle managed to keep their salable assets and the performance on the pitch has even impoved.

Do we know how much of his own money he has put in? Do these people ever actually put their own money in or do they just give guarantees? Wasnt Ellis supposed to have put £100m in a year or two back?

You're right of course, if he wasn't going to sign a new contract then we got decent money for him.

I just get sick of contracts essentially being meaningless and players just swanning off when they feel like it
It's the way it is, and you can bet your last, that if the scousers don't qualify for the CL Suarez will be off. 200k a week or not. We just failed to bring in the right quality in the summer. Short has had his fingers burnt with past managers, and he seems to be trying a different route. It isn't working so far, but I feel we have a good manager in poyet.

ES Short is a billionaire. Just think about it. The best % rate we can get is around 3%. 3% of a billion is 30million. Fair enough it's not all cash but I would have no doubt that someone in the business he has been in will be raking in a hell of a lot better rate than 3%. It's his decision how much he spends on the club but don't fear. We ain't about to explode financially.

:) Indeed and I think he might just have an inkling about the money side of the palava. Only way we'd be really messed up is if Ellis walks away & he's not a loose cannon, belltashed, trousers up to his tits type of chairman ;) So wish folk would stop worrying.

They are all amortised in the accounts over the length of the contract ...............theres nothing to suggest the actual fee is paid like that(it may be sometimes) but that's how its accounted for in the financial results..........
That's what I said?

Edit: didn't see that bit of the post I was replying to. I was talking about potentially renewing bardsleys contract.

We can only presume he wanted to be fully involved rather than a simple benefactor. If he was going to up sticks and leave I doubt he'd have wanted to become Chairman.

Theres no way that amount of money will be there to spend............its very simplistic to just think that all the parachute money is just a nice little pot there doing nothing but waiting to be used on players...............

i never said we'd have that much to spend. you probably don't need that to do well in that league. but he's still going to have to invest, unless he wants to own a mid table championship team.

Which will be around £40 million less than we would get for stopping up.............if you seriously think Poyets going to get around £40-£45 million to spend if we go down mate youre living in cloud cuckoo land ...........

I never actually said he would have that money to spend; financially it leaves us in a much better position than say we had gone down in the last few years.

£10m-£15m maximum spend if the cheque book does come out , which will probably be the funds for selling Fletcher, Johnson, Giacherrini. The £40m loss in TV money will be mitigated some what by a much reduced wage bill. I wouldn't have thought any incomings would cost more than a couple of million, with 20k max p.w. And that's where hopefully we can utlise Poyet's knowledge of the lower leagues

In the teams performance yes but had anybody gave Ashley the chance to get his £267 million back he would have been off like a shot...........

Nobody has despite the club performing well...............

Agreed

He knows a hell of a lot more than us. But for me, we did need to make changes but it was too much too soon for me.

We scraped 17th and then decided to sell our 2 best players and funded 14 additions with that. It was never going to work, it was a recipe for disaster. We needed to add some quality and instead sold what quality we had left.

I think it should have been done over a few windows taking us into this summer where a lot of the crap is out of contract.

The problem is mate; quality comes at a cost so its vital we can ship out the deadwood before spending. Sadly however, due to many of their contracts, no other teams want our deadwood and we are stuck with them.

Short has made mistakes but he has been dealt a very bad hand. His biggest mistake was not taking a more active role in the club when he first arrived and instead allowing Quinn and Walton to advise him.

You have missed the point, I'm not concerned about that happening.

Also we might finally get to see some of these invisible academy players.

Buying quality costs a lot of money, money we don't have without getting the club into deeper dept.

I don't see too many other options out there to reduce millions worth of debt apart from cutting spending, as I say, if we do stop up then IMO its job done for Short.

Let's not forget either that this is the man who said he never wanted us to be in a relegation battle ever again. I don't imagine he's just going to sit back and let us drift into the first division.

Thats a good point. The fact is though they stil have players who can command large fee's like Cabaye etc. We sold all of ours and still are in the shite.

You reckon? Could be bad news for Gus if true.

I agree, said as soon as the window shut that if we stayed up it would be a successful season as we took a risk.
