Financial situation at the club

There are always 2 aspects to a business. The profit and loss is one and the capital value of an asset is the other. Whilst we have posted revenue losses there is little doubt that the capital value of the club will have risen. There seems to be plenty of wealthy people who are interested in buying a Premier League club.
We have our own ground with a decent capacity and our gates are in the top 8 every year, seemingly regardless of the fare on offer.
We have a history, albeit in the distant past and there is no sense in not investing to maintain the clubs premier status as its value will plummet in the Championship.

I agree with the sentiments but they still need replacing. And unless you're picking up just frees, we will need to pay £3m say and what, £20k a week? You're still going to be looking at £4/5m for the first year of one player.
That's not how transfer fees are accounted for. They are amortised over the life of the players contract iirc.

Of course we can compete, the point is we are outspending many of our rivals in the bottom half and have done consistently over the last few years. Unfortunately we have spent so badly we are left with a squad full of players paid way above their contribution on the pitch.
The club has never learnt from it's mistakes. If stories are true about talking about extending bardsleys contract which is unbelievably high, it would be a sign they still haven't.[DOUBLEPOST=1388753244][/DOUBLEPOST]

They can be, not always.

put it this way, if he does not give him funds, we won't get promoted again.
think the point he was making was you can't treat parachute payments as necessarily having more money to spend as we'd have far more tv money if we stayed up, not necessarily saying there wouldn't be any funds.

Im not worried about the fee's I think you can always find players cheaply, if you go to Germany, Italy, Turkey you can pick players up cheaply. There will be teams who will look to sell due to relegation or not getting promoted. New managers not fancying certain players at the club, Players wanting to move or not signing new contracts with a year to go where the club will then look to sell.
Some will stay (Bardsley Colback and Seb would be my guess) we will look to loan players as well
we're losing 25m a year, it'll be more than that.
What would your guesses be?

If a player is contracted to you then you can do whatever the fuck you like.
To a point yes, but he only had a year left. He would've gone for nothing this summer. Catch 22. We've got a decent replacement in mannone, which is more than you can say about the rest, unfortunately .

I wonder what deal (if any) Bardsley will get if we do go down?
And I wonder what he will be offered if we manage to stay up?

He is one of the few right now who seems to deserve a new deal if the numbers can be agreed.

Guess that depends on the terms of the contract.

But if there was any mort available it could have went towards the sales but it never.

I'm not expecting us to spend more than £5m this month either,[DOUBLEPOST=1388752675][/DOUBLEPOST]
Financially exploding isn't my worry, it wouldn't be beneficial for short to do that.

My issue is mainly us competing on a premie league level, financially. We don't seem able to.

The problem is; as a business we failed to grow under Drumaville and then Quinny/Walton. In the last couple of seasons we’ve tried to expand (new sponsorship/business opportunities etc), but we are playing catch-up.

Our owners put in probably £150 million and would want that back I would imagine if he was to sell up so that's what dictates the actual value of the club not an assumption that its capital value had increased..............

You're right of course, if he wasn't going to sign a new contract then we got decent money for him.

I just get sick of contracts essentially being meaningless and players just swanning off when they feel like it

I think we will go down though. We did have to make changes, I agree there but I think relegation would be a disaster for us.

Relegation is a disaster for any club that goes down, not looking good for us at the moment but don't think we are nailed on for relegation yet either, lot of poor teams down there with us.

You've been very critical of Short, please tell me what you'd have done different over the summer to reduce the clubs debt and posting losses of £20m+ per year.

They are all amortised in the accounts over the length of the contract ...............theres nothing to suggest the actual fee is paid like that(it may be sometimes) but that's how its accounted for in the financial results..........

We'd struggle to bring in quality if we're in the championship mind
Some of my best SAFC memories have been given by rough diamonds signed when the budget was tight.
I wonder if we already have some good young-uns to do the Elliott-Arnott-Rowell thing?
Or is there a new Kevin Phillips or Marco Gabbiadini out there?

He knows a hell of a lot more than us. But for me, we did need to make changes but it was too much too soon for me.

We scraped 17th and then decided to sell our 2 best players and funded 14 additions with that. It was never going to work, it was a recipe for disaster. We needed to add some quality and instead sold what quality we had left.

I think it should have been done over a few windows taking us into this summer where a lot of the crap is out of contract.

Theres no way that amount of money will be there to spend............its very simplistic to just think that all the parachute money is just a nice little pot there doing nothing but waiting to be used on players...............

The capital value, or sales value will half overnight if we are relegated.
