I never really go to grips with junctioning properly. My least favourite method of levelling up in any FF game I've played.

Mate, I'd recommend you play it. Will get you used to the combat. Played it a few times and it helps you learn how to switch and utilise special attacks. Helps you get used to the basics as, first time through, I just button mashed for the most part.
