Counties have some concerns apparently.....

ya don't say.

  1. Bidding process to host games
  2. Concerns from counties that don't hosts games that the terms are too generous giving those counties a permanent financial advantage
  3. Concerns from Counties that do that they'll have to move out during the whole competition period

all of the money involved could have been spent on the current tournament.

crowds would increase, with this one simple measure.

let England players take part in it for their counties.

This. Why do they think people will go to watch “the Leeds Vikings” in a T20 game at headingley, but they wouldn’t go and see Yorkshire? Why not just put a fraction of that money into advertising/grass roots promotion and - crucially - put some cricket on terrestrial TV in the summer?

The administrators seem to be convinced that the game can only be saved by turning cricket into some sort of Americanised, glitzy bullshit.

At club level, we are now getting the DCB suggesting that games with “coloured clothing” are key to attracting junior players. As if kids with no interest previously are going to say “we’ll if it’s blue pants instead of white ones, sign me up”.

There’s even been a suggestion from the DCB that the Hetton Lyons Sunday League - one of the best run and most successful leagues in the region - should consider playing T20 games rather than its current 45 over format - as that will “attract more youngsters”. This league has played a huge role in helping young players at many clubs to develop over the years. There’s nothing wrong with it and it doesn’t need to be interfered with. The suggestion is mad - so out of touch it’s unbelievable.

I genuinely hope that the ECB are right - and most genuine cricket fans are wrong - and this glitzy new T20 tournament revives the game. I just can’t see it happening.

Penny is starting to drop.

I wonder how far away we are from the Counties getting together an f***ing off the ECB altogether.

It can’t be far. Apart from the fact that I don’t see it working (at least not to the scale that the ECB seem to believe it will), if it does work how could it not lead to an unfair division of revenue? A Premier League type situation where the rich get richer?

I have to say it,. Good one

For the millionth time, 2 divisions of 9 (Div 1 and 2) playing 8 games with promotion/relegation and play-offs. Play it in a 4 week block in August. Have a regional T20 cup late May-July on Fridays. IPL has 10 teams with 4 overseas. England has more depth in terms of quality within the counties. Tests June-July, ODIs in September.

Why is this not obvious to those at the top?

It appears they are actively wanting to sideline ten counties, in favour of the usual suspects.

Will be very interesting in the first year, to compare crowds between this and the standard county t20 tournament

It is obvious, everyone within FTECB know what works - they just don't like it, because it doesn't make them enough money.

The current tournament is pretty good already, loads of people go and watch it, the cricket is a good standard and we get international stars

I just don't understand the logic, just plow money into it, put it into a premier and 1st division, its not rocket science.

This topic boils my piss whenever it comes up. Everyone except FTECB can see that the current format works well, even without the premier and 2nd division suggestion. Just look at the crowds FFS (granted Durham need to do a bit still to get people in).

Then there's the devaluation (and eventual destruction I fear) of the County Championship which I can't be arsed to go into again. Over 100 years of history and tradition pissed away for the sake of FTECB's greed.

Its only Durham that struggles, but we are by far the newest county.

The big point for me is they are obsessed with targeting a "new audience", they already have, they come to the blast, who do they think is at all these sell out games? County cricket fans? It is far from it.

They definitley would like to see half a dozen counties go.

Durhams biggest problem is the lack of interest in them in the region, be it supporters turning up to watch them, local buisness investing in the club and now media interest. When Durham play away now there is actually only one local journalist travels and that is Emmerson and that is funded by the ECB.

A 2 division tournament in August would offer 4 games per day. Terrestrial TV could show a game each Sat/Sun/Bank Holiday. Even have televised games during the week at 5 and 7.30. SKY can have first pick and ITV4/BBC2 second pick. What's not to like about this?

6 groups of 3, all randomly drawn in a live draw FA Cup style (extra bonus if they get Rod Stewart).

3 “Finals day” days. Top 6 plus best 2 runners up through to quarter finals. Then finals day.

All group games to be played the same day, so you would have a load of cricket going on at the same time.

Can play the whole shite thing over 2 weeks and get back to red ball stuff.

"counties will be asked to tender to host the matches without an accurate idea of the costs or revenues involved"

FFS man, have FTECB not learned anything from their past mistakes?
