Failure to sign striker cost us

No that was why we conceded goals. But when our defenders had the ball they pressed us high up the pitch , kept pinching the ball because we had to play through them because we had no option of going long.

We could not even cross the ball because there were was no presence in the middle and only 2 big centre halfs is not enough as well.
You’re right pal. Should have signed akinfenwe to hold the ball up.

Incorrect

Even when Roberts and Diallo got on the ball they were outmuscled very easily due to the short pitch.

We didn't need presence last night we needed pace. So even if we had bought a target man last night we'd have still got beat.

A pacey poacher though and it would have been a different story as then they couldn't press high

Well done to our players and Tony Mowbray for working miracles with the players at his disposal.
Lot of nonsense posted about tactics or players bottling it.
The cold facts are we were unable to counter their high press because we had no option to play long.
The reason for this is the abject failure to sign a decent physical striker in January.
Those responsible have let down the players who have performed amazing the manager and the supporters.
You need the tools to do the job.
The reason we didn’t finish higher up the league is as you described. The reason we lost last night is that we couldn’t pick two centre backs with aerial dominance and physical strength.

Think it's funny because if we have Batth and Ballard playing those two play off matches we go through.
If we had Batth and Ballard playing we would still have to pass our way out of our own half.....and then pass our way to the opposition's penalty area, as we have been doing ever since we lost Stewart and Simms.

Losing the centre backs has been the straw that broke the camel's back but we were severely hampered well before then and what has been achieved in the latter part of this season has been in spite of the January recruitment.

Not knocking the recruitment by the way, which on the whole has been fantastic, but the manager, players and fans were badly let down in that last window.

As predicted at the time, here's the threads.

I genuinely think we wouldn't have made the playoffs if we panic bought a striker.

If we have Batth and Ballard we don't concede 2 of those 3 gosls conceded imo. The difference

Just go and have a look at the league 1 scoring charts plonker and that is without the hold up play and bringing others into the game
Calm down man, since we’ve had no striker we have been forced to play a nice passing game, which has worked 85-90% of the time. If we had a 3rd division striker to lump the ball up to at every opportunity, we would not have hit upon this style of play and imo would have got no where near the play offs. All in my humble opinion of course.

The thing that has cost us was having Ballard, Batth, Alese and Cirkin injured.

With the amount of goals we have scored does not support your theory. Who is to say if LND had been fit we would have scored as many goals? Scoring goals was not the problem. We did not go into last nights game having to score to get through. Our problems have been more defensive related and inability to keep enough clean sheets. Even if you have strikers but keep conceding then it will be tough.

I don't disagree, but my point about passing our way out of our half and then having to pass out way to the opposition penalty area is still valid...and we have had to do this for the vast majority of this season.
