Face masks could return this autumn if Covid cases begin to surge alarmingly

Most indoor places require face masks. I'm surprised the death rate is above 150 and they don't seem to care its growing. How many deaths would it take to do something?

Couple of points.
Current death rate is 135.
Only indoor places where masks are a requirement are the likes of hospitals

Should never have been removed .A tiny thing like wearing a mask in shops etc made a huge difference. Yet another poor decision from the government.
If people are ignorant enough not to wear one then that’s on them. You don’t the need the government to hold your hand from cradle to grave. People have got the information but don’t like to take self-responsibility anymore.

How about imposing the use of face masks now, to try and prevent a surge in infections rather than when it's already happened? Just a thought.

Because if cases surge, they have to be seen to be doing something tangible in response. If they play the mask card now then they'll have to do something else (and probably more unpopular) in future. It's all about appearances.

Masks aren't going to stop a trend of upwards hospitalisations and deaths, they'll bring that in to look like they don't want a lockdown & then when it doesn't work they can bring in restrictions.

Like you say it's all about appearances, but it's typical that politicians were taking their own holidays and recess from parliament and it was all quiet on this front. Soon as they're back it's rent-a-quote & briefing time.
