Fa cup fifth round onward replays scrapped with immediate effect.

Emirates FA Cup fifth round replays removed

(No mention elsewhere on here?)

Basically to assist sides in europe/prem and feck anyone smaller.
Wish theyd leave the great competition along or better still let the ‘big clubs’ feck off out into some euro shitshow.
£ £ £.
This ^ they are determined to push this competition into the bin to accommodate their cash cow of the top 6 and this pathetic circus that revolves around them in the media

Bit shit for any minnows who could have a money-spinner replay like, the lower league club should be given half the takings and prize money if they get a higher level club to extra time imo, also a bit naughty changing the rules after the competition has already started, lacks respect.

Already split 55%-45% or summat innit?

For me that’s not what it should be about and if that’s what any club has as a priority then fuck em. The financial benefits of a FA cup run are a consequence not the reason for doing it in the first place.

Maybe not Their priority but say Walsall get into r5 n draw with liverpool at home.
Previously that’d give a huge awayday with all the memories plus finances too, now they’ll probably go out in et or pennas.

Tuff. It was a sport before it was a business.
Count em up in the future and I bet more minnows will progress ower the next ten than the last ten. Replays are very rarely won by the little lads.

Positives: the competition might get some credibility back. Bigger teams will have to field stronger sides from the outset because there'll be no fail safe if their ressies dont beat lower league opponents.

Lower league teams will have more chance of progressing. Much more likely to beat a bigger side who are tiring and having an off day, than if they go again after they have had the chance to regroup and refresh.

The quality of football towards the back end if the season should improve. With the intensity of the modern game, there is too much football being played. This isn't just a top 6 ("fuck off and join a euro league") issue, this is an issue across every level of the game. Less football = better football!

Negatives: lower league teams have less chance of a money spinning replay. Although you could argue they'd have more chance over 120 minutes of progressing though to the next round and therefore the chance for higher prize money and of drawing a larger team.

The dream tie rarely happens for lower league teams on a good cup run. If Accrington Stanley who are big advocates of lower league rights were drawn against someone like Bristol City at home in the 5th round, theyd much rather have a crack at them over 120 minutes than 180+ home and away to get into the next round and drawing a top side.

There is no perfect solution. I personally think there should be an opt out system up until the 4th round. Then if say two teams going for promotion in say the conference south drew each other, if both didnt want the possibility of a tough couple of games they could opt out of a replay before the tie. Then from the 5th round if both teams wanted the fail safe of a second tie if the first game ended in a draw, they could opt in to having a replay.

No perfect solution, but it saves the competition dragging on now that we have to have a weeks notice for the replays.

Bit rough after the draw when you have to wait 10+ days to find out who you are playing next round, especially if it's an away fixture and you're wanting to book travel.

For once you talk sense;)
The Fa cup is dead, long live the fa cup.

The old days when there could be 3,4,5 replays man:lol:

How about seeding in rounds 3 and 4. Free for all after that.

It is for the smaller clubs. Look at the round 3 draw where everyone was hoping we’d go through so they could play us and get enough money to see out the season.

Quite a high minded attitude to think that smaller clubs should be fucked just because they can’t win a cup.

I dont really see the point of seeding. It certainly would do for any 'magic', if such a thing existed at that stage. An issue I could foresee of the top of my head with seeding would be that the competition would throw up similar, if not identical, fixtures year in, year out. Much like the champions league which seems to have very similar ties in the early stages every year.
