F1 2023

Perez was made to back the pack up until Max was on Sainz and Alonso. Hence he was only 1s ahead of Alonso at that point, and has no finished 20+ seconds ahead. It's clear to everyone with half a brain really - if he was on equal terms he'd have been 15+ seconds up the road by the time Max gets past Alonso and there wouldn't have been a race.

Perez is a second driver and will never be allowed to compete. The season is truly dead without any meaningful competition even within the RB team.
Proof?

Proof of what? Things that happened during a race that we just watched?

Try looking at the live timing screen that is available on the FIA website, or about 50 other sources and you’ll see for yourself. You’re free to believe that Checo magically drove over a second faster when Max got right behind Max by choice if you want but I don’t believe in coincidences like that

This is the quietest I’ve ever seen this thread on here. Very sad really. I’m giving it until next week to see if the upgrades have any impact and I’m just gonna give up I think - no point when there’s no competition whatsoever
That's me too, the way max cut through the field and RB will favour him over Perez what's the point of watching
I think tonight it's quiet because of starting time, coronation concert and ppl away or out getting drunk. Back to normal times now
I think it's quiet because we all knew it would be shit

It’s not just the starting time. There was plenty of us here watching and just not having anything to post about. There’s periods mid race where nothing at all is said for 12-15 minutes at a time. It’s very sad tbh. Just nothing worth discussing or anything

It's mainly I don't think he would want to retire, but also doesn't want to be in a car going nowhere. Like when he jumped to Mercedes from Mclaren.
The only team that seems more likely in that scenario is ferrari to replace sainz

Imagine if RB are 1 and 2 in every race, it would be farcical indeed
Would make a mockery of the 'sport'

Notes from today

- Can see RB winning every race this season quite easily with the majority being one -twos.

- Ferrari look minging and can’t even blame mental on the fly strategy decisions.

- McLaren have managed to turn a brick into a breeze block.

- Driver entrances need to to be banned immediately. If I ever hear some one else say ‘Max, I told the world you are unstoppable. Will you be unstoppable?’ I’m going to start watching snooker instead.

Think Red Bull will be one-two at every race this season, they’re so far ahead in pace that they can turn the car all the way down n not stress it at all

If you think the merc b spec is going to change the season, I got bad news for you.

So no proof , that's fine , same old, same old
Perez was "forced" to back the pack up , where was he told.to.do this , he drove his ass.off to be where he was , it's.his best

It won’t have them winning races but at least competing for third would be nice and not unrealistic. It’s more the lack of progress that’s frustrating than anything, and being third at least gives you a chance if the RBs trip over each other or have other problems

What proof do you want? A signed legal contract?

Don’t really understand what you are asking for tbh - proof isn’t really a thing in sport. It’s clear as day though he was backing up Fernando and Sainz for the first 15 laps orso, as evidenced by how quickly he took off once Max got within Sainzs DRS, and the timing information is publicly available to anyone both during and after the race

As someone who doesn’t rate Hamilton, do you think he would be offered the ‘golden seat’? A car that can win (which is by no means a given with Ferrari over the last 15 years)

Ferrari have been so troubled for so long that I think they may perceive Hamilton as a risk as he ‘might’ be past his best now - it’s an unknown. It may be relevant that he is also a strong-willed participant in decision making - everyone knows that they could benefit from that possibly except Ferrari themselves, it’s something they have discouraged in the past. It seems to me like they are more likely to try to grab the next perceived rising star. Equally Hamilton may well see them as the ‘nearly’ team they have been for so long and not as a good bet For hitting the front. I don’t think he will give up yet, as long as Merc offer future improvements as for example the new car next race, but I do think this may be his last team through his choice and he will retire rather than fade like say Vettel.

Watched the race on delay - I think RB do prefer MV as it is easy BUT know the publicity boost from a fight. When the gap was coming down with Perez before MV pitted, he should have been called in but wasn’t, an inexplicable error - it would have been ‘unfortunate’ that Perez had a substantial advantage and the race would be on. MV didn’t read the script and instead put in astounding laps to stretch the lead before pitting and even a slower stop couldn’t dent his ease of regaining first place. Some are desperate to show RB favouring Max but the conspiracy evidence went the other way.

The post race question about tyres was puerile. RB split there options to MV’s theoretical disadvantage, doing so in the expectation that MV couldn’t breeze through the field so going with the long stint strategy. Every team knew the medium should have been the correct start - and it probably was. Perez wasn’t given the wrong tyres, he was simply outfought and outthought.

After the race Christine was asked why Max was constantly told of the gap to Perez but Perez wasn't told of the gap to Max. Christine said Perez is told their lap times every lap, he can easily work it out.
So Max is told the gap but Perez has to work it out. There is no number one driver though.

and outthought
It was interesting what Anthony Davidson said about the pair of them throughout the race when talking to the team. Max appeared to have constant radio chatter compared to relative radio silence on the no.2 car. Perez I assume just wanted to keep his head down but wasn't aware of that storming middle section max put in...

I assume that was driver preference though? ala Kimi telling the team to shut up.

I think perez missed that lap 20+ section where max was storming away...

Has the red bull car 2 always had the same race engineer? They've always had a school teacher manner when talking to perez/albono/gasly on the radio I've thought...

Maybe but I would have thought being told the lap time difference would be preferable to looking at your lap time and being told Max's lap time then doing the sums in your head.
