Exchanging/Selling faulty goods to CEX, Grainger Games etc?

I bought my PS3 from a bloke in CEX. He took it in to sell it and I was looking to buy one. They offered him £100 for it with all the games, but I was stood next to him buying one for £180 with 2 games so I offered the lad £180 for his bundle they weren't impressed

My friend will probably not bother and incase of them testing it in store

Even with something like that if you list it on ebay and be accurate someone will buy it for more than CEX..

Asking for a friend, but lets say both your PS4 controllers work but the analogue buttons regulary select upwards, reckon you could take them to CEX store and get a voucher for them or will they do a check there and then and realise your pads are shot to bits?
