Ex-players offering their congratulations

I managed to be given an invite to the royal box through work.

Monty and Micky Horsewill were in the Royal Box (as was Reidy and Quinny).
Monty seemed to have is Grandson with him and was sat on the front row with Satori and KLD and their partners. Maurice LD was also there and I had a really nice chat with him. He was so excited and happy and you can tell he’s massively into it all. I hadn’t realised he had a place of the board now as well.

It was an unpleasant reminder to see Methven and Donald there, but interesting to see they only had seats in rows 5 and 4 respectively. Bob Murray was give a better seat iirc.

KLD and Sartori are obviously very close and the latter was loving it all and singing along to the songs and bouncing around on his seat. KLD is a super cool customer.

p.s. I blagged my way to the front row of the royal box for the presentation and congratulated all the players as they made there way along after collecting the trophy. Ended-up hugging some of them and shaking hands with the rest. Bloody amazing day and was such a privilege to be sitting where a I was and have such an amazing experience.
It’s certainly an experience. I was in there for the Man City final. Was talking to Ellis Short for a while in the banqueting suite and the city chairman saw me talking to him. As I had a club tie on I think he thought I was part of the official party and was talking to me for ages asking me about the club. I was trying to get away as I felt like a charlatan.

We were in CW and had seats right by the comms box where Mickey G was and the nipper got to shake all the players and AN’s hands on the way up (he still hasn’t come down from that) to get the trophy – and had all his mates texting him to say he was on TV.

As many have mentioned, Big Mick Harford was there and it was lovely to be able to go up to him and wish him well on the walk back down Wembley Way later. So good to see him looking so well. He’s a handsome chap! Like an ‘80s rock star. I reckon it would have taken him two hours to walk back to the tube as he was constantly being stopped by people.

Just a wonderful, memorable day to be a Sunderland fan. I’m old enough now to worry when will I get the chance – if ever – to feel like that again. We just didn’t want to go home. Such a special day.

Defoe said he was coming to help get us over the line, and in a small way he did. He got us excited to be Sunderland fans again in the week after our worst ever result. He gave us a distraction for the few weeks while Neil was getting us going. He took a little pressure off Stewart when Broadhead was injured. And his presence on the field created a few of the goals we needed at key times. It didn’t work out in the end, but I’d have one Defoe over a hundred Griggs.

Fuck me that’s being very very kind to him like. He did the square root of fuck all.
