Everyone calling for MON's head

I think that's just to counter the suicidal sids tbh.

I do accept it, as we are having a bad run. No denying that. What I don't accept is jumping of the deep end and having a proper hissy fit, saying that we're getting relegated if we don't change managers.

What we need right now is some good old fashioned solidarity in the face of the rut that we're in. Its what used to define us as supporters.

I agree but i am worried. The football is dire just now. Far too slow and pedestrian. Surely he can see this. I just hope we can pick up enough points between now and the window to stave off the pressure on him, which will inevitably increase if we have a bad December.

We need a spark of pace and creativity in midfield (we obviously thought Johnson might give us this and please god he starts to soon) and a boost to the place during the window. Who? I really have no idea which also worries me.

you happy with his tactics mate , do you think 2 wins in 21 or 22 is acceptable , is that not an accountable amount of games to judge a top manager on
ps i dont want rid but wold like to watch a decent game of football obe in a while and the odd win now and then not every 3 months

No, I am not happy with how things are going at all. Though I don't think these are his tactics. I just think the players are largely failing to execute what he wants from them.

I don't think for one minute that he sends the players out to pass it so laboriously, or pass it backwards and then watch rather than moving for the return, or checking back and allow the opposition to get behind the ball when they could drive forward.

I just thinks he needs time, just like any other new manager you could name would need time.

its easy having a pop at the fans mate , we are extremely tolerant but a lot seem to think we are jumping on backs for the sake of it , his record over the last 2/3s of a season is atrocious and fans have every right

I don't want to have a pop at the fans marra. Like I mentioned earlier on in the thread, we were mint. At times we tried so hard to get things going. That Danny Danny Rose chant got me goosebumps.

Mind, in the same sentence we must also accept that we should take some responsibility for the edginess in some of our players. They were terrified to give the ball away and just wanted to make the easy pass, in case we got on their back even more.

Like I said in me previous post, as fans we should realise that some things we cant control, and some things we can. I.e the support that the players get in the Stadium of Light. Yes it might be a bit foolish and blind to support these players with such gusto and pride after what they've shown us lately. But I thought that's what us Sunland fans were know for. I sincerely hope we haven't lost it.

so why does every game mirror the last , surely his input is to change the way they play if they arnt performing , why do they pass it back even when a forward pass is the better option , do they actually train properly as a few look so unfit , all in all the manager is responsible for his charges and he is failing miserably at the moment
ps i dont want rid merely an improvement soon

Fortunately he is one of about 4 players that seem to give a fuck and hes not even ours , his comments today give a bit of hope but why does this come from a player that is tied to another club . Its too f***ing easy for most of them out there and they dont seem to give a monkeys and thats what pisses me off the most

I'm not sure it does. Everton was a good performance, and so was Fulham. The display against West Brom was much more positive that the scoreline suggested.

Ultimately, I just don't think he has the players to implement a major change yet. Too easily bullied in midfield and locked into the the necessity of keeping a high defensive line.

Not at the moment no. He has to be accountable at some point, but no one will be in a position to accurately judge him hear for another year or so.

I'm slightly surprised, given that the excellent tactics feature on Roker Report tends to show up the deficiencies in O'Neill's strategy with alarming regularity. When does he become accountable. His job is to prepare, organise and motivate the team to play to a winning strategy. He is singularly failing to do that at present.

What if the current trend continues? If we replicate the form guide of the last five matches (DLWLL - very possible looking at the fixtures) that would be 17 points with virtually half the season gone. Will he be accountable then? I don't want to denigrate your viewpoint and could understand if there were signs that he was turning this around but there aren't. We'd all like stability if the right man was in charge but performances are rightly making us wonder if he is that man.

first 8 games under him i didnt see this , ye i know it only goes on so long but how the hell are we so piss poor now at everything going forward , surely a man of his experience should have sorted it by now , he looks lost and the interview last night where he stuttered his way through it leaves me more concerned , his ramblings reminded me of his onfield charges

I cant understand why he plays Larrson and Colback in the middle, I know the "midfield" changed quite a few times last night but can anyone mention a game this season where they have played well together in the middle of the park?

Colback has only played due to injuries in the last two games but he must really think Vaughan is shit if this lad gets in the team ahead of him.

I dont want to sack MON because we need stability and I think he could turn us around, but my patience is being tested, I've not really enjoyed any of the games I've been at this season, apart from Arsenal and that was down to the weather and beer being taken.

\Currently watching the mags game. They arent have closing down, grafting for each other. Pressing and hunting in packs. This is what we were like when MON first came. Now we are slow and dont press. Looks like the players are in it for themselves and not working for the manager.

Our high defensive line must run across the edge of our box. We were regularly surrendering almost the entire pitch to a side without a win this season. His fault or the players it matters not, it's inexcusable.

Like I said to Chucky, I think we have to avoid assuming that what we are seeing is what O'Neill has identified and planned as our best chance for success.

Obviously things are going wrong. The tactical problems are there for all to see. But until there are only 5 players at the club who MON has signed. Until he has a fair chance to prove that it is his tools and not his craftsmanship at fault, I don't think he can be reasonably judged.

Sorry mate, mistake on my part. Meant to say a deep defensive line.

Has anyone thought we might have no money to spend...we'll sharp find out in January.
We might have made 2 big deals but we released 17 players and brought in around £9m..
Can't honestly see a manager not buying in the summer when hes got the cash...mind the window was slow and we might have missed out at times.

I've got to agree with the OP. Can't see any gain from sacking O'Neill for a number of reasons; it would cost a fortune (havent any idea how much mind) to get rid of him; who the fuck are we going to get in to replace him (anyother ex-player from the old boys club?), we would look like a club in disarray and are then less likely to get decent signings through the door.

Surely after Keane/Spragia/Bruce we need a bit of continuity. We can't keep just blaming the manager for poor performances - the players have got to shoulder some responsibility because they're not exactly blameless in this. Its a bit embarrassing when a loanee last night IMO showed more about him than most of the rest of the team, certainly from the midfield and front.

I say stick with him, he knows a shitload more about the game than me so I'm fairly sure he'll be aware of which parts of the squad he'll need to strengthen.

Eh?

He isn't addressing blatantly obvious problems even we can all see.

He played two midfielders at full back positions, what must it say to our entire defensive squad of players, if Colback gets ahead of you at LB and Gardner at RB. He continues with the dross that is Campbell on the bench ahead of an inform Wickham.

His end of match emails have become an eye into his mind, he now talks complete bollocks when earlier he spoke with such wisdom, it's as if he's hoping we don't notice all the shit stats/facts piling up for us.

Not to mention his lack of any Plan B, it's Plan A, regardless of circumstance or opposition.

He/We need to thump Norwich and have the performance of the season, if we don't you can put me in the MON out camp.

For the time being his own preferences are also moot. All that matters just now is that our tactics are broken and ineffectual and he has done very little to change that, hence our poor run being so long and progress being absent. A better manager wouldn't have persisted as Mon has done with a clearly flawed formula.

Also I'm not buying the idea of our salvation being in the transfer window, as it's never been MON's strong point. Even here he's bought players who dont fit his system and who he isn't getting the best out of as a result. And why any good players would be keen to come to a team with poor results, in poor form and with the proviso that they play without the ball for about 70% of the time is beyond me as well.

Managers who are aiding progress, even just treading water, I have no problems with giving time tonprove themselves. Bruce earnt his time by getting results for the club. Mon is actually taking the club backwards as things stand and there is little salient evidence which points to this changing.

Hang on a minute... HAS he persisted with it?

People on here asked for 4-4-2. They got it. Nowt changed.

People on here asked for McClean to be dropped. They got it. Nowt changed.

People on here asked for Johnson to be moved to the left. They got it. Nowt changed.

People on here asked for Gardner to be moved into midfield. They got. Nowt changed.

Seems to me that everyone has all the answers, until they proved to be phantoms at which point they pretend they never happened.
