Why do they start off seasons so poor?

Toiling today against a, generally, shit Stoke side. Yet their team is class, and come the second half of the season they'll roll over sides like Stoke at home, their team is generally class and they've got a lot of very good players.

Yet until November/December, they are generally always utterly shit.

Typically, we never seem to get them early season either :evil:

They were in the relegation zone when we drew 1-1 with them at The SOL last season, that was Boxing Day IIRC and they ended up finishing the season only 2 points away from Europe.

If they could start seasons as well as they end them they'd be guaranteed Europa League every season and putting up a decent challenge to the 'Top 4' too.

As I say, class team who were just rolling into form when we played them.

Pretty happy with the point, to be honest

I said I'd take a point before the game. Over the moon after. As Jarvis said in his thread (and I f***ing agreed with him, what's gannin on there?) Everton are the best side I've saw at the SOL this season. Arsenal in spells passed the ball around nicely, but Everton always looked dangerous and had goals in them.

Everton are a class team. We have better strikers and (imo) a marginally better Goalkeeper.

But their defence and midfield dicks on ours - I'd replace our whole first choice defence and midfield with theirs (not a criticism of ours by the way). Very good team.

At work today, and I said I thought a draw and didn't fancy us to win, and people looking at me like i'm an idiot. Amazing.

Gordon was very poor for me tonight mind. Also, assuming our centre halves are Bramble and Mensah, not sure I'd swap them. Like the look of that Coleman who's right back for them though.

I consider Turner and Bramble our CB's, Mensah is never fit enough. And I'd take both Distin and Jagielka ahead of either of those.

and Neville was RB tonight, he's the only one in my 'defence/midfield' claim I had to think about, but I still reckon he's better at RB than Ned

and aye, Gordon had a shaky one tonight like.

Their midfield were excellent tonight. They were too quick and a helluva lot smarter than ours. If that game was played last year (or even earlier this year) Cattermole would have gone, as he was chasing shadows and pulled out of a couple of very late tackles - as they moved it far too quickly for him to keep up with.

It's just a good jod that injuries have destroyed Saha and Beckford is shite.

aye. and imagine how good they would have been if Fellaini had played.

Class side Everton, some quality players there.

The difference in the styles was evident. They were very comfortable moving the ball quickly and pulling us about, whereas we are still a team that trys to get forward as quickly as possible.

Watched it with a couple of Evertonians tonight and they said that they struggle against the best teams that Everton try and fail to match, and the bad teams that bully them.

Interesting though, they all said Rodwell is a future England centre back, not midfielder.

Yeah, that's the general consensus about Rodwell, that'll he'll eventually move into Defence and be different class there.

As I say, they are a brilliant side like. The type we are (rightly) aspiring to be like. We need to add more quality in midfield, as you allude to, basically.

I think Henderson has it to be that type of player, the more games he plays in the middle the more he'll grow and I think he's more that capable of playing tippy tappy passing. However Cattermole will never be that player and I'd hope that his stay in our team doesn't last longer than a couple of years.

They are excellent like, if they could just start a season in any kind of decent form......

Who knows. It certainly reflects their playing style. I love the way they ebb and flow, slowly building up momentum, like waves hammering at a beach.

Having said that it's probably more to do with injuries and them not having a big squad.
