Sky still saying weve accepted evertons offer.
Presumably Kones agent keeping them up to date.Terms probably more or less agreed before everton even contacted safc.
We should be out of our misery before long
Then we can look forward to signing 3/4 3m players from the lower leagues or surplus players from prem clubs.

It is who he replaces the sold player with. The best anyone can say is they don't know about our big signing so far, as for the others we have a fair idea.

We certainly know how good a player we are losing and we don't see many players of his quality in defence do we? That is the worry. you can count on one hand how many SAFC defenders are better than him probably in your entire lifetime.

Given that, it's likely we are significantly weaker when we sell him. But that's ok... we aren't relegation material are we?

Or a new kone for 5mill then spend the rest on januzai or fellaini.

Half of the league can be relegated man.
You could look at Swansea and think they've sold their PL position by selling Williams. There's only 3 can go down

ohh ok.

Good tactics. Let's sell our best players but just try not to be weaker than we think other teams are.

That's a pretty shitty mentality and a game we've been considerably lucky at the past 6 years...but hey, lets keep playing.

because he's our best defender in well over a decade and we are relegation material.

Selling him makes us significantly weaker....it's not like we are in a position to be significantly weaker is it?

Its not my job to discern possible strengths and weaknesses, I am a fan, and I hope maybe the lad we got from Chelsea comes good, I saw the job Moyes did at Everton and I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

If the alternative is gloom and doom I am happy with that decision, until gloom and doom is forced upon me.

pfff... one of our best defenders in recent years and we're happy to punt him off after only 6 months.

Let's not worry about it:
  • he wants to go
  • we're not relegation material
  • we can afford to be weaker if we think other teams have made themselves weaker than us
It's a terrible mentality to run a club on.

What do you suggest? We keep increasing the wages of players who demand it and hope to finish 10th?
Also keep rejecting offers that are double (or more) than what we paid for them, then when they are too old we get nothing, or they run the contract out and we get nothing, and we've had our memories of them 3 mid table finishes we are financially fucked

But remember when we finished 7th that year

I really dont know what you expect, all clubs sell players. Hopefully Moyes has a plan to make us more competetive even if |Kone does leave, after all, thats why he has been employed.

I dont consider myself a happy clapper, just a realist. If we turn down Everton, what would we do if Chelsea come calling?

If we get £20million for Kone, how about;
Fellaini £20million
Januzaj Loan
M'vila £3.5million (rumoured fee)
Sakho £15million
Right back??
With incoming fee's and Allardyce compensation it's only about a net spend of £25-30 million which should be well within budget!

Do you honestly think the club would have given him an official promise of a new deal, 15 games after signing a 4 and a half year deal?
Given the carry on when he first signed it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if he had requested something down the line based on is staying up or whatever. Either way the club are making the wrong decision on flogging him imo

The kone signing at £5m was a one in a hundred signing for Sunderland. You just know we will completely waste the money. A third of it is potentially being spent on two average youth players from man utd

But the objective is to play football at the highest possible level. That is done by fielding a squad of players good enough for the task. If we had a good squad with a ready replacement either already here or lined up to come in,then the time may be right to cash in and take some profit. But,we haven't. We're not in that position owing to many years of player mismanagement. Our squad is f***ing terrible and not fit for purpose. In order for us to achieve our objective....at the moment,to stay in this league....we have to keep our better players. There is no point in us cashing in and taking a ,say £10m profit on Kone ,and struggling again at the bottom. Papy is a squad addition,as is McNair. We've no evidence either of them will improve what Kone gave us.
