What about the 20% - 25% sell on clause rumoured to be in there that his old club would get. If that is the case, once you pay that plus any bonus / payment due to Kone then it isn't looking as good is it?
yes what about a rumour sheeple?

I predict Papy will be great

you think we promised him a new deal after 15 games man

I'm not disagreeing with the agents bit, you have to work with them, its why BSA was so good, he knows the system inside out

Its one reason why its a big loss

But I just feel that maybe these 2 are taking the piss a bit too much. I'd be surprised if he stayed like.

And not only that did so on a word :)

Lets be honest here, his agent would have written any agreement on wage increase / contract renegotiation into a contract or legal agreement. Or, and considering who his agent is the more likely imo, they are using the fact bsa has gone to try and get a better contract

None of us know how much he's on so its difficult to say if he deserves a rise. He may be on top money already for all we know

I agree with agents though, this has had his arsehole agent written all over it from the start. I've no doubt hes playing games & using media to get a response. In all honesty as much as i want kone to stay, i'm finding it hard to have any sympathy with him
I can't see how he could be on top money already. He came here without any real pedigree. He was playing in France's 3rd division not too long ago and has only played 120-odd games in Ligue 1. He's only got 5 international caps. I'd guess £30k, £40k tops.

That might not have been his
decesion to do so. It's staggering the number of people who think we should just drop our pants over this, yet they wanted us to play hard ball with the FA.
I would say it is DEFINITELY not the managers place to promise a pay rise. What if the CEO refused?

And if it was as cast iron a promise as Kone seems to think, it would have already been in his contract.

It's a lie from Kone so the fans don't turn on him.

You highlight why we shouldn't be in outcry about this.

He isn't and wasn't as good as some are going on. Kaboul is a better defender.

Kone has played his entire career in mediocrity, one short seme decent spell for us and people going on like he is irreplaceable and Maldini reborn.

For all we know Djilibodi (sp) is better anyway

Henderson.......£16m+

Vaughan.....free
Larsson.......free
Gardner......£6m
N'Diaye.......£4m
Gomez.........free
Bridcutt.......£2.5m
Rodwell......£10m
I read at the time that the rodwell fee had some serious add ons unlikely to be met but we'll assume you are right
Tbf larsson has been excellent value on a free.
Bbc have the liverpool fee of henderson at 20m
Fact remains there wasnt a person on here not happy with rodwell's signing. Easy to be critical after the event.
You were adamant mcgeady was tailor made for the premier league based on youtube. He's lucky to get on the bench
That we waste money is not in doubt.
we wasted bigger money when we had a football man upstairs in NQ.
We wasted money when we had DoF's.
The managers have by and large been popular appts but quickly have turn3d to shite.
Short has backed them.
Unfortunately for the club only bsa has done anything of note and left the club much much better than when he took over.

Couldn't give a fuck about profits, tax returns, gross income and f***ing "great" business. I wouldn't mind finishing 14th about 15/18 points clear of the relegation zone this year though.

Seems to me that he and his agent are engineering the move, I wont comment on the alleged fee until the deal is done. Anywhere around the £20 million mark has to be a good deal for the club surely, 4 x profit in eight months. Take the money and spend it elsewhere where we need it.

It isn't a good deal to sell the best defender we've had in over a decade when you are a struggling relegation team.

The size of the fee doesn't alter that. You are being blinded by the number, when what is important is the strength of the team.

20MIL for Kone is actually great business, 4x profit in 16 games, you like to think the club are confident enough that they can find an able (or better replacement) for less money leaving cash to spare for other signings.

They say hindsight is a beautiful thing but I have a feeling we might look back on this as a great deal.
£5m will go to l'orient

Nice .... one is at our club now.

It's a team though.....sometimes the manager just gives the final nod. pearson got a lot of kudos for the brilliant signings Leicester made but it was actually Steve Walsh who did the legwork......and he's now at?

Unless you know the intricacies of a scouting network it's difficult to say which element(s) make it successful.

That's how it works like....

Well, thats what we bought him for, if it can happen once it can happen again.

I think Kone is a fantastic player, but I think he and his agent are just seeing £ signs, he was offered a new deal by Allardyce, that doesnt mean Moyes cant sell him to reinvest if thats what he needs to do.

The only explanation I can come up with in my head is if we sell Kone for £18m or £21m whatever is and there was reports about Lens leaving too. If we get £30m for them two players, it's gonna give Moyes some maneuvering in the market and could potentially get 4 or 5 for that.

I am clutching at straws mind.

Money is relevant when we have the debt we have. If we give this lad a bumber pay rise who next will be wanting more money. I dont want to sell but having watched the kids video yesterday and his focus on more money combined with a possible £21m offer I think we need to seriously consider it. Either that or Kone gets his head down and focuses on the football instead of ££££.

That's a fair view.

But I can't truck with the decision to sell based on £20 mill being a good price. We are a struggling team, probably battling relegation again with a weaker side and we are selling our best defender.

WTF are we doing? Trying to go down it appears. It isn't a good deal to get rid of your best defender in over a decade at the first opportunity. We are considerably weaker than last season and we start in 2 days time. Not good business by any measure and £20 mill doesn't alter that.

how much will it cost to replace him?
Maybe we don't need replace him at a massive cost, maybe Papy is good enough, then just some cover.I'd rather Kone never left but i don't think it will be the end of the world, especially if we actually spend that money and more but hard to tell what SAFC will do regarding any money received if he went.
