He hasn't got a clue. He's just getting his pennies worth in now the speculation has ramped up in attempt to seem ITK. Didn't have a whiff of the one signing we have made and was hardly straight on the scene when this story began circulating.

As in telling people nearly 2 weeks ago this was likely to happen ?

Can only hope that we have other signings immediately lined up otherwise this is monumentally stupid timing, particularly if it's for £18 million.

Cash in and take the £18 million.

Get Mcnair and Love on loan, finally get Mvilla and Yedlin, with a new CB like that Aden Flint we were linked with at the start of the summer, I think Jags is too old.

spend rest of the window trying to get bony and another CM. soild 12th place finish

Cash in? Whoooooooooosh ye fooka.....

say what you like about our championship friends up the road but they know how to get the most for their players

we should have held all the cards here. 4 years left on his contract, Everton have just received £50m for a lesser defender etc.. (not saying we should be asking the same for Kone but £18m in today's market and taking into account the former is piss poor from the club)

This. It's an absolute piss take.

Quite a big one if rumours are to be believed, maybe that's why we are looking at a fee + Player instead of a straight fee
I'm sure any contract clauses like that would require that a player involved in any exchange was valued and a percentage of that paid over too. Too much of an easy loophole otherwise.

And four days to go till the season starts. We're a f***ing clown show.

SAFC' have a contractual obligation to Kone, but not only does SAFC owe a contractual obligation to Kone, Kone owes SAFC a contractual obligation too. If SAFC decides that Kone is too important to the building of a successful team, they can say "No" to Everton's offer and "No" to Kone, should he be indicating a preference to leave.

There needs to be a move away from clubs feeling obliged to instantly indulge the mercurial whims of players and, probably more likely, their agents. In January, Kone, as a 26 years old adult and fully advised and guided by his chosen representatives, agreed to join SAFC for £Xk per week for four and a half years. Until both parties are mutually inclined to vacate the contract that exists between them, then Everton's interest is moot.

I believe that post-Bosman freedom of contract is a good thing. However, it should have a flip-side, with contracts being honoured during their specified period.

I fear that this is all about SAFC not valuing building a successful team, but rather about the club wanting to make a quick profit, to be used to bring in additional players, rather than the club spending 'new money' on that objective (and if that 'new money' has to come out of Short's pocket or out of the new TV revenue, then so be it). My fear is fuelled by my experience of the club's past record in this area, where large sums of money are frittered away in relatively small amounts on several mediocre players, rather than expended on one or two top quality additions.

For example, there is a suggestion that some of the Kone 'profit' will be used to secure the services of Hendrick from Derby. I would reasonably predict that Hendrick will prove to be this year's Buckley or Bridcutt or, at best, Gomez.

Similarly, the suggestion that SAFC should become the 'Bide-A-While' Retirement Home for the soon to be 34 years old Phil Jagielka should be laughable, but would it really surprise anyone ? After all ,we've got a vacancy for an over the hill centre-back since Wes Brown has left.

There appears to be no change in the club's mind-set about retaining quality and then building further with more quality.

If Kone is allowed to leave it is to be hoped that the £10m profit made over and above what has been paid for Djilobodji (who would now seem to be Kone's replacement, rather than a replacement for the ageing O'Shea) will be paraded around the touchline on a couple of pallets, so the fans can revel in the club's riches.

Well for those that think he's going/gone (and I remain unconvinced until a formal announcement ) he can only be going with Moyes' blessing.
No way would he take the job on a 4 year contract without final say so. Sure he may have to wheel and deal but it will have moyes written all over it.
People trying to blame short for this need to look elsewhere.
If he is going it's because Moyes knows we can cope without him. We have to assume he knows what he's doing.
