They don't have to make an official statement for things like this.

Given how reactive the club have been over Santon & Allardyce, though - some 'leak' to the press that he is not for sale would be re-assuring. The longer nothing comes out, the more i suspect the intention is to cash in.

These demands for statements are getting beyond embarrassing like.
why?. Simple message to clarify the position for the supporters.

what is embarrassing about wanting genuine information from the club itself

The club can't be expected to release a statement on every single rumour. We've been linked to well over 100 players this summer should we be announcing a statement to let fans know it's genuine every time? Should the clubs of those players be issuing statements? If it happens it happens, absolutely nothing to be gained from issuing a statement about something that may or may not happen.

This is whats pissing me off, the club need to make a statement and say whats going on. Whether he is having talks, a bid has been accepted, he is staying or they are holding out more more money, they need to say something. The silence is the most worrying and annoying part of all.
No other club does this when a player is subject to a rumour. You can't do it every single time a player is linked with a move.

so when they release statements, it is stupid?

move to north korea

IF the club came out and said "We will not be accepting Everton's approach for Kone. Kone will remain a Sunderland player"

and then before deadline day, ANOTHER club come in with an even BIGGER bid, we would be forced to sell, thus angering all of the fans that read/trusted the initial statement. It's really not difficult to understand.

How many other clubs release statements about keeping players while the window is open? Every player has an acceptable fee. Kone is no different.

If it's true that Kone's agent is spinning stuff and leaking stories hear and there then it's very reminiscent of the Gyan saga.

Player joins us, loves the club, brilliant move for him and couldn't be more delighted, does well and is then hawked around and off in a flash when a better offer of wages and a new signing on fee are dangled.

It's just the way of modern football.

No but a statement to say yes we are in negotiation or no we aren't would be nice.
this is it. People slagging off itks etc, would be put to bed by the club.

just want genuine info from the club itself. cant see a problem with that
